about 30 officers from
throughout the Western
Region (the area from
Windsor to Owen Sound
to Guelph) were on hand
at the open house, the only
one held in the region.

the open house was held to promote the OPP's presence in the community and show what resources the
OPP has. "We've been here for 90 years and hope to be around another 90 years," Graham said. "This gives us

successful run through
the trees during the first
ever Ausable Bayfield
Conservation Authority
5K Conservation Run at
Morrison Dam on Sunday.
Seaforth Public School
Gr. 7 student Robert
Johnston won the race
with a time of 22:24 with
race director and ABCA
conservation education
technician Rob Ridley fin-
ishing a second behind.
McCurdy Public School
students Trevor Griffith
and Kevin Foster were
neck and neck for third
place till the last five
metres when Foster
pulled away to take third
place with a time of
22:34, one second faster
than his schoolmate.
The top females were
London's Kate Licastro
(25:17), McCurdy student
Marlene Lightfoot (25:56)
and Seaforth's Caroline
Shepard (26:30).
The Shepard family won
the family category with a
combined time of 1:47:05
while McCurdy won the
`modified' school category
(1:43:03) since two of
their runners were teach-
ing assistants. The stu-
dent -only school winner
was Seaforth (1:57) fol-
lowed by Usborne Central
School (2:02:14).
Ridley said over 20 run-
ners from as far away a
Mississauga participated
in the event, a fund -raises
for the Sylvan Trust Fund.
The trust sets aside
funds to make the Camp
Sylvan Conservation
Program more accessible
for students. The 35 -year-
old program is the longest
running residential con-
servation education pro-
gram in southwestern
Ontario.
Of note: Ridley donated
a loonie for each runner
as well as a toonie for
anyone who beat him.

Zurich still needs
new councillor
ZURICH -- The village is still looking for an-
other councillor.
Zurich clerk -treasurer Charlene Overholt re-
ported to council last Thursday the village has
received no applications for the vacant council
position left open after last month's resignation
of Shelley Rodgers -Bedard.
Overholt said she has been told by the Ministry
of Municipal Affairs the village must 1111 the spot.
The village will continue to advertise the open-
ing for the council position, which has one year
remaining before amalgamation with the villages
of Hensall and Bayfield and the townships of Hay
and Stanley.
