Rick Sokolowski of Huron Park landed an I8 -pound salmon in the Bayfield River
at Bayfield Friday morning. Sokolowski told the Times -Advocate he'd make
smoked salmon from his catch.

wide communion was
observed at Grand Bend
United Church on October
3 with Rev. R. Putman in
charge. He told the chil-
dren about special days
when people get together
and about communion.
Scriptures were read by
Frank Loscombe and the
choir's anthem was enti-
tled "Come to the Table".
Guest speaker for the
meditation was Gabriel
Del Bianco. His talk was
an object lesson using a
battered tin pail but he
showed= goad •thii>tgs. come
from inside the pail. Ten
people came forward to
say what they could do to
help the church.
Greenway United
Church anniversary will
be held October 17. Grand
Bend United Church
anniversary will be held
October 31.
On Thanksgiving
Sunday, October 10, at
Grand Bend United
Church, Rev. R. Putman
talked about giving
thanks. In his talk to the
children he told them that
children are important
and should be thanked.
Edna Frampton was
thanked and given a gift
for her Christian work.
Flowers placed in the
sanctuary were in memo-
ry of Olive and Allen
Miller by their family, also
in memory of the late BM
Bragg by his family.
There will be no service
at Grand Bend on October
17 so that members may
attend Greenway
Anniversary service.
Rebekah Lodge
EXETER- Pride of
Rebeckah Lodge was
opened in long form. All
officers were present. The
charter was draped for
one sister and one broth-
er.
Oct. 20 will be the instal-
lation of officers for 1999-
2000. The installing team
from Exeter will instal St.
Marys, Brussels and
Clinton lodges. The group
helped at a booth at the
plowing match and spon-
sored the Blood Donor
Clinic at the high school.
Hensall LegionAuxiliary 1949 to 1999
HENSALL - Hensall Legion Ladies'
Auxiliary to Branch 468 was formed
Sept. 27, 1949, two years after the
Legion was formed in 1947. Zone
Commander Dorothy Doyle from
Stratford was the organizer and overseer
of the formation at this meeting. The
Auxiliary, then held their first official
meeting October 4, 1949, receiving their
Charter Oct. 7.
The first President was Hilda Beer
(now deceased); Marion (Stangster)
Peebles; the first Secretary Treasurer,
now resides in Kensington Village in
London. The total membership was 56,
and we are pleased we still have one
Charter member,Comrade Jean Munn.
Money was raised by holding bingos at
the Legion Hall every two weeks, bake
sales and catering to dinners; the price at
this time was $1.25 per plate, bleached
bags were purchased to make tea towels.
Tickets were sold on a quilt; proceeds
from this draw was used to buy the
piano.
The Legion and Auxiliary combined to
hold picnics for the families in the sum-
mer and a party at Christmas. The
Auxiliary had an adopted veteran; we
have had our present Veteran George
Goulais for 29 years since 1971. The late
Marion (Dougall) Walker, a nurse at the
Veterans Hospital, assisted us 'with the
procedure for getting this Veteran. The
first Veteran adopted was Mr. Dawkins;
the next one was Raymond Istead.
