G 4 v ` Exeter Hawks triple Parkhill 6-2 By Craig Bradford TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF EXETER — The Exeter Jr. D Hawks hockey club evened their record to 2-2 with a 6-2 home win in Hensall over Parkhill North Middlesex on Oct. 1. The line of Jeremy Geoffrey, Jason Grenier and Jarrett Jeffrey was hot combining for 10 of the ` 14 scoring points with Geoffrey scoring two goals and two assists and Jeffrey adding a goal and three assists. Grenier helped out on two goals. Hawks coach Andy Friyia added veteran defenceman Ben McCann had a solid game. London's Ryan 011sen made his first start in goal for the Hawks and turned aside 21 shots while Exeter shooters threw 26 shots at Parkhill's net. Friyia decided to make the goaltending change because he wasn't pleased in the perfor- mance of his two original goalies from London, Dean Kluke and Damon O'Quinn. Friyia has released Kluke and O'Quinn while 011sen, 18, will assume the number one netmin- der spot and Exeter's Ryan Sullivan will be his backup. 011sen played for Friyia while he coached the London Rebels minor and major bantam teams that won two Alliance titles and an all -Ontario title a couple of years ago. Friyia said 011sen "carried the team" to those cham- pionships. 011sen played for Burford Jr. D last season was in the Strathroy Jr. B camp when Burford decided to sign another goalie before 011sen returned from Strathroy. Exeter's goals were scored by: Christian Stuckless (powerplay, assisted by Geoffrey and Jeffrey), Jeff Glover (from Nick Regier), Geoffrey (from Grenier and Jeffrey), Ben McCann (from Grenier and Jeffrey), Jeffrey (from Geoffrey) and Geoffrey (shorthanded, unassist- ed). The score was 3-1 for Exeter after the first peri- od and 4-1 after the sec- ond. The Hawks have two of their key defencemen on the day-to-day injured list: Chris Chatterson has a cut hand and Berton Dykstra is having a re- occurring jaw problem (he broke it last season). This week Exeter trav- els to Mitchell on Oct. and head to Lambeth. on Oct. 10. • I fig, :J9 i1iG:ir:i:}`Situ:::'isct3i::$£:_x,'.;}:.•.„-:`:ris:;:;::•:;'-`_-.::';± to<;2`?_i_ ...-. . r ... :.:•••:•:'.:.:::::::.:: . ....... ....... The big difference in the game was penalties — Thamesford was called for 20 infractions while the Irish received only eight penalties. Lucan also scored three of their goals on the powerplay. "One of the keys to our win was our team discipline," Irish co -coach Jason Bukala said, adding he has been preach- ing discipline to his players for the last couple of years. The turning point of the game came when Matt Thomp•;on scored a short- handed goal just short of four minutes into the sec- ond pt • ied to tie the game at 2-2. Assists on the g''i11 went to Corey Smith and Kevin Dunbar. The Irish played the game with a short bench: only 10 forwards and five defencemen. Rightwinger Mike Burns was out with a cut elbow and defence - man Jason Kyle has stretched ligaments in a finger. Thompson was one of the offensive stars of the night with a goal and two assists and Dunbar scored two goals and had the one assist. Scott Wheatley and Ryan Keating both contributed a goal and an assist while Smith helped out on two goals as did Chad Lambourn. Other points went to Chad Greenlee (scored Lucan's third goal) and Ben Dobbie (assisted on the first goal). Jon Wickens got the start between the pipes for Lucan and saved 31 shots. The Irish threw a total of 46 shots at Thamesford goalie Craig Murrell who faced 23 shots in the first period alone. The score was 2-1 for Thamesford after the first period and 4- 2 for Lucan after the sec- ond. "It was just a complete team effort," Bukala said of the win. "(We showed a) phenomen, 1 work effort.
