ENT CENTRALIA - Children, teachers and parents from Centralia and Zion United Churches enjoyed fellowship and food at Fun Night on Oct. 1 with a potluck supper. The group decided to continue to hold Fun Night on the. last Wednesday of each month beginning in Oct. Fun Night on Oct. 27 will have a Hallowe'en theme. Any parents who would like to help organize a Fun Night contact Karen Windsor. Upcoming activities On Oct. 7, Zion West and Centralia UCW women will meet at their respective churches. • Everyone is . invited to attend worship during regular times on. Thanksgiving Sunday, Oct. 10. Worship at Zion West will be at 9:45 a.m. Worship will be held at 11:30 a.m. at. Centralia United Church and will include celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. Centralia United Church will celebrate their anniversary on Oct. 17. Worship will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friends of the church, including congre- gation members from Zion, are invited to partic- ipate in the worship ser- vice. The guest musician will be Leona McBride. The Session also invites everyone to stays for lunch following the service and enjoy a time of friendship. South Huron UCW Fall • Rally with be held Oct. 21 at Crediton United Church. For the program theme "Tell Us the Story" everyone is invited to wear theirfavourite nighttime attire such as pyjamas or night shirt. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the pro- gram will begin at 7 p.m. Euchre results On Sept. 27, 14 tables of euchre were in play at Heywood's Restaurant. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the service on Sunday morning at Thames Road Church. The congregation took part in the Litany for World Wide Communion and the Affirmation of Faith. Personals, A number of friends and relatives called at Breckenridge -Ashcroft Funeral Home in Owen Sound to pay their respects to the late Margaret (Luxton) Franklin on September 23. Some people from this area attended her funeral on Friday. Many people called at the Hopper - Hockey Funeral Home onriday to pay their respects to the late Gerry Grubb. Sympathy isextended to his wife Kay and hgr family. Calvin Rohde returned home on Saturday from Stratford General Hospital after having undergone surgery. Marilyn Vandenbussche: K `' Janis Richardson gave the Minute for Mission "Dealing with Mines in Terror in Angola." Don and Anne Bray received the offering and were the greeters. Barry Miller wheeled a cart forward filled with items for the food bank. Communion was served by Intinction, the practice of coming forward to receive a piece of bread and then dip- ping it into a cup. Rev. Carter, Judith Parker and Bruce Delbridge assisted. The flowers in the sanctuary were placed in memory of the late Gerry Grubb by his wife Kay and family. Sympathy is extended to them. Life and work of the congregation The Committee meeting of the church is called for October 6 at Elimville Church at 7 p.m. and following the Council will meet at 8:30 p.m. On October 10 the Thanksgiving church service will be held at 10 a.m. at Elimville. The Sunday School will have Queensway residents enjoy many activities HENSALL - Fun and Fitness had everyone off to a great start Monday with flexibility exercises. Following the exercises for the body everyone gave their brain a work- out with mental aerobics. In the afternoon bingo with the Hensall Presbyterian Women had residents occupied. Rev. Cordell Parson of the Exeter United Church led Worship Service with a message based on 1st Corinthians. Belva Fuss was volunteer organist and Marg Cole asgisted residents. Baking groups met Wed. and made carrot . muffins and chocolate peanut but- ter bars. Pastoral Care volunteer, •Winnie Hotton was in Thursday for visitation with residents. Staff and residents will miss Edith Kennedy, a resident of the Nursing Home who passed away recently. The baseball video "Beyond the Bleachers" was well attended Thursday afternoon. Friday, residents collab- orated with the Hensall Public School students on another International Year of the Older Person project. Forty white pine tree seedlings were planted by students and residents. Twenty will stay with the students, to be cared for by them in the spring and used for -their refor- estation project and 20 will be cared .for at Queensway. EXETER - Following a luncheon at Kate's Station, Vanastra, eight members met at the Pentecostal Church, answering to a roll call with a scripture verse on "thanks" or "thanksgiv- ing". Shirley Prouty opened the meeting in prayer. A gift of $50 was sent to Katharine Isaac, home missionary, for her birth- day. Over $1,000 was desig- mated and sent to orphan- ages in Brazil, Argentina, Thailand, India and to the Mozambique Feeding Program in Africa. Helen Kendrick gave a message entitled "Go in the Power God Gives Us". The United Way's fall fund-raising campaign started off withbang on the week- end, by raising $ 1,092 at a benefit concert and barbecue at Gar's Bar and Grill. United Way executive director Kim Bilcke was pleased with the result and said "people were very generous." Staff at Gar's donated their time and tips towards the United Way and owner Gar Penhale donated the money from food sales. According to Bilcke, about 150 people attended the fund-raiser at Gar's and she said the large amount of money raised was unexpected.
