By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH - A weekend program designed to help separated, divorced and widowed people re-evalu- ate themselves and move into the future with renewed hope will be held from October 8 to 10 at the Michaelite Father's house in Melrose. For information phone Helene Ducharme. St. Boniface and St. Peter's students are hav- ing a youth group meeting for those in grades 5 to 8 on October 7 at 7 p.m. in the school gym. Parents are asked to come with their children to the first meeting for registration. The high school students of St. Boniface Parish held their second youth group meeting on Monday evening at the church. The Sparks, Brownies and Guides held their first meeting on October 4 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Zurich Mennonite Church. Anyone still wanting to join any of these groups can call Nicole Veroude at 236-7631 'v'i r Ruth Ziehnaii-Zehr at 236-4471 for information. Any pre - worn uniforms not being used would be useful to the new. members. Leaders and helpers are g it needed. Some members of the Zurich Women's Institute attended the Fall District Rally in Clinton on October 4. In the evening they held their monthly meeting at the Blue Water Rest Home so some of their members (residents at the home) could attend. President is Joan Smith. Any members of the Zurich Agricultural Society wanting to attend the ,annual District #8 din- ner/meeting in Mitchell on October 26 at 6:30 p.m. are to phone Margaret as soon as possible for reser- vations. Tickets are, $10 per person. A Hallowe'en Mad Bash will be held at the Zurich Community Centre on October 30 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The cost is $5 per person and prizes will be given for costumes. The next Lions Club meeting will be held October 13 at the Dominion Tavern with dinner at 7 p.m. Students of St. Anne's High School in Clinton will be getting sponsors for a walk-a-thon to take place on October 15 as a fundraiser for school pro- jects. The C.W.L. Deanery meeting is set for October 27 in Listowel, beginning with Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Phone Coby at 236-4038 before October 24 if you want to go. The recent Community Dinners held at the Zurich Arena during the week of the International Plowing Match were a great suc- cess. Donna Klopp assumed the role of Master chef with many volunteers from Zurich Chamber of Commerce, Optimists, St. Boniface, Lutheran, United and Zurich Mennonite Churches sharing their time and services. Proceeds from this com- munity effort will be equally shared among the participating organiza- tions. Personals Debbie Regier and Chris Sproule were married at St. Boniface Church by Fr. Wronski on October 2. The dinner and reception were held at the Zurich Community Centre. The bride is the daughter of Pat and Evelyn Regier, RR #3 Zurich. Following their honeymoon, the couple will be living in Orillia. Veola Wood and her two daughters Karen Deitz of B.C. and Jane Williams of Miltone past two eekg g through the Maritime Provinces. The trip was to celebrate Veola's recent 80th birth- day. Farewell to Bernadette Denomme who has moved to her new home in Tecumseh, Ontario. Congratulations to Jerry and Julie Groot, RR #1 Zurich on the arrival of their third child, a girl, Courtney Eve, born October 1. This is the 34th grandchild for John and Bridget Groot, Zurich. Welcome back to Zurich Matthais Wronski, pastor of St. Boniface Parish who was on a leave of absence for the past three months to visit Poland. He arrived in time to celebrate his birthday on October 2. Fr. Mario Cassar spent the summer months in Zurich looking after the parish while Fr. Wronski was away. He has now been moved to St. Francis Zavier Parish in Tilbury. A surprise birthday party was held for Dorothy Dietrich recently at the Zurich Mennonite Church. Happy birthday wishes go to Ron Heimrich on September 27; to Jacob Rothenberg on October 1; and to Margaret Hess who was 98 years old on September 24. Happy 26th anniversary wishes go to Mozart and Julie Gelinas on September 29. The family of Jeff and Rosie Rothenberg spent the weekend in Ottawa visiting with members of his family. Sympathy of the commu- nity goes to the family of the late Clara Klopp who passed away last Thursday. Her funeral was held on October 3 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Ross Thomson. Robert and Alma Westlake announce the arrival of their first grand- child, a girl, Sera Bilhan Ruth Westlake, born September 15 to parents Tim and Hande in Toronto. Sincere sympathy goes to the family of the late Percy Bedard who passed away October 4_ The family of Ivan and Marjorie Meidinger held their Thanksgiving dinner and get-together on October 3 at their home. • Elaine Beauchamp returned home last Thursday after spending a two-week vacation in San Francisco, California visit- ing with friends Anne, Bob and Steven Besozzi. Happy 35th birthday wishes go to Vicki Ducharme on October 3. She woke up in the morn- ing to find a lawn full of pink flamingos and a big birthday sign. A family get-together was held at the home of her parents Ron and Sharen Schroeder on Sunday, which was also for her sis- ter's, Kelly Consitt, birth- day on September 15. CMHC's Home Adaptations for Seniors' Independence (HASI) Program may provide qualified applicants, age 65 or older, with a forgiv- able loan of up to $2,500. To qualify for the HASI program, applicants must meet certain income requirements and have difficulties associated with daily living in their homes. The funds can be used to cover the costs of minor home modifications that will allow seniors to live independently in their own homes for as long as possi- ble. Adaptations made under this program could include installing handrails, easy -to -reach work and storage areas, lever handles on doors, walk-in showers, bathtub seats or grab bars.
