McMillan Students of St. Anne's began the week with a mass concelebrated by the chaplain Father Dino Salvador and a guest priest Father Morris. The focus was, "Service to Others". A presentation of funds was made to the student conference of St. Vincent de Paul, a group working from the school for the needy. The funds came from the sale of "The Voice", the school newspaper. Throughout the week, pledge money for the "Walk for St. Anne's" began to come in and it looks like there will be another great effort to raise funds for charities, student sports, arts, field trips, and other meaning- ful events. A letter was sent home last week so that parents would be aware of the diverse use of these funds. A group of students and staff are organizing this year's event and it will be a great day of community involvement for all. The walk will take place on ' Friday, October 15 weath- er permitting, and the rain date is the next Friday, October 22. Students in their first year, and their families, should know that 'we will walk 10 ,kilome- ters on country roads away from the busy high- way traffic. This is done for safety and the country roads are a pleasant route. I would like to take this opportunity to ask parents who wish to take part to call the school and be walkers, or offer their services as volunteers at rest stops and other checkpoints along the route. It's such a great event. Students get out and support what we as a community do at the school. Parents are also remind- ed to encourage their daughter or son to approach friends and neighbours they know for pledges . The students will begin their walk after a brief assembly. The walk will begin at about 9:30 with students, staff and parent volunteer monitors walking in groups. Monitors will drive the route equipped with cellu- lar phones in case a walk- er needs assistance . The concept of walking for a good cause is not a new one, but I must admit that there are more gains than financial. Students spend the day walking for their school and as they do, a great deal of spirit evolves. Staff and students chat along the routo getting to know each other as people with a common cause. I hope parents will feel wel- come to come and walk in the tine fail weather.
