ABCA run for Sylvan Fund
EXETER - Run for a reason on Oct. 17.
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority
will host a 5K run on Oct. 17 starting at 11
a.m. at Morrison Dann Conservation Area with
all proceeds going to the Sylvan Trust Fund.
Cost is $25 per team or a minimum of $25 in
pledges.
Gardner named rookie of week
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Hensall's Cara Gardner
is thrilling sports fans on a different surface
now. ,
Gardner was recently named the Ivy
League's rookie of the week as a member of
the Brown University Bears field hockey team
after posting three goals in two games.
When last -updated by Brown, Gardner was
leading the Bears in scoring with four goals on
10 shots. She scored a pair of goals in Brown's -
come from behind 5-4 win at Providence
College and assisted on the game tying goal. At
Yale a couple days later, Gardner scored
Brown's first goal hi a 2-1 win.
Brown had a 3-0 record when the T -A was
last updated, the best start for the squad since
'91 when the Bears finished 9-5-2 and won the
Ivy League crown.
Later this fall, Gardner will lace up for he
second year with the Brown women's hocks;
team as a defenceman.
Baynham wins silver at nationals
VANCOUVER - Brenyn Baynham found t
silver lining at the recent Canadian field hock
ey finals in Vancouver.
Baynhatn won a silver medal as .a member o
the Ontario squad. Ontario-rilade it to the final
by defeating B.C., Alberta and Manitoba in poo
play. Ontario lost the gold medal game to B.0
3-1.
Baynham is in her fifth year playing fiel
hockey with the University of Toronto Varsity
Blues where she is studying phys ed.
