Hensall Fire Department open house set for October 6

The Hensall and Area
Fire Department will be
drill. Residents served by
the Hensall Department
should watch for the
department flyer. The
flyer outlines the open
house activities, as well as
information regarding
smoke detectors in
homes.
Week of the Child activi-
ties are currently being
planned for the Village of
Hensall. The last Week of
the Child, of this millenni-
um, will be Oct. 15-23.

activities -- including free
skating, crafts, prizes and
of course the spectacular
costume parade!

VARNA - Church was in Goshen on
Sunday and will be in Varna this
Sunday Oct. 3.
Flowers were placed in the sanctu-
ary in loving memory of Bernice Reid's
mother, lona Blake. The community's
thoughts and prayers go out to Bernice
and Charles and their family.
Condolences also go to the Chuter
family on the passing of Tom Chuter,
Wilfred's brother.
The Teens will meet in Brucefield
Church on Sept. 29 at 7:45 p.m. at the
Brucefield Church. The Trends will
meet Friday, Oct. 1 in Brucefield at
7:30 p.m.
Happy 60th Anniversary to Bill and
Eleanor McAsh on Oct. 2nd.
Sunday October 3, World Wide
Communion will be celebrated in
Varna church.
In the afternoon the Five Alive will
be hosting a Mystery Car Tour and
potluck supper with registration at
2:30 p.m. at the Stanley Complex.
The cost will be $5 per car. At the
same time London and Kitchener are
having a walk for Breast Cancer
Research.

worthy cause they may do so. Receipts

potluck dinner to follow, please bring
your own plates and cutlery.
Monday, Oct. 4, the East Huron
United Church Women will hold their
annual fall rally in the Varna church.
The theme of the evening is "A Faith
Journey" with Rev. Tracy Crick of
Robinson Memorial United Church in
London as guest speaker.
There will, be special music and a
book display.
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and
the program starts at 7 p.m. The
evening's offerings will go to Camp
Menesetung to help with their sewer
project. Everyone welcome!
Sunday, October 10 Thanksgiving
will be celebrated in Varna and Varna
anniversary will be celebrated Sunday,
October 17 in Varna.
Happy belated 93rd birthday to
Wilfred Chuter on Sept. 21. Chuter is
the oldest resident in Varna. Happy
birthdays also to Valerie Laurie,
Darren Keys, Rod Merner and Irvin
Keys.
Anyone wanting to help decorate the
Varna church for Thanksgiving should
be at the church Thursday evening at
7 p.m. with your Thanksgiving decora-
tions.

Dance." Ross Kercher and
John Thomson were the
ushers. Cecil Pepper
looked after the elevator.
Eleanor and Eric
Mansfield were the
greeters with Eric also
lighting the candle. Belva
Fuss was the organist.
The choir sang an anthem
entitled "Love Lined Me".

Match including vocalist
Sarah Noakes, grand-

Noakes. The Hensall and
District Horticultural
Society organized many of
the societies in the county
with the floral display in
the county showcase
area.
The Hensall and District
Horticultural Society is
thrilled to present guest
speaker. Professor Bill
Andrews at their October
19 meeting. The topic will
be "Landscaping With
Nature." The meeting will
take place at the Hensall
United Church at 7 p.m.

Educational evening planned
by Cancer Society on Oct. 19
EXETER - As a result of
a lot of hard work and
dedication of 15Q volun-
teers, the Exeter branch
of the Canadian Cancer
Society collected
$19,432.00 at the spring
residential canvass.
The team leaders were:

Marion Pfaff, Dianne

Willert (Zurich Lions),

Hugh Boyle. They orga-
nize volunteers in their
neighbourhoods to do the
door-to-door canvass.

Hugh and Hazel Davis for
coffee were Arnold and

ily members were also
visitors through the week.

of Thanksgiving will be
