Euchre results
At the euchre held in
Crediton recently, the
lone hand winners were
Mary Kinney and Norma
Walper. The high hand
winners were Bernice
Squires and Harold
Hodgins. Irene Theander
and Betty Coates were
the low point winners.
CENTRALIA - On
Sunday, Sept. 26, con-
gregation members of
Centralia United Church
joined Zion West United
Church to celebrate
their anniversary.
The Zion Sunday
School entertained with
the song Ducks Go By.
The Zion Choir sang
Love of God. Special'
guests were members of
the Woodham Quartet
Harry Hern, Gordon
Johnson, Glenn
Copeland, and Ken
Blackler. They shared
the songs Little Talk
with Jesus and How long
Has It Been.
Minister Heather Scott
delivered the sermon,
What Do You Think?
The Sunday School
hosted a hog dog lunch
following worship and
donations were accepted
to assist with disaster
relief work in Turkey.
International'
Plowing Match
Visitors to the
International Plowing
Match : had the option of
arriving by airplane at
Centralia Airport and
taking the free shuttle
service to the match site:
Organized by Bobs.
Essery,local aviation
groups assisted in pro-
viding transportation for
themore than 40 air-
planes that arrived dur-
ing the week.
Visitors flew from their
home airports such as
Little 'Current, Stirling,
Oshawa, Maxville, Port
Perry, Selkirk and
Tweed.
On Wednesday, mem-
bers of Ontario Flying
Farmers provided rides
to the site for visitors
from 17 planrs. The
vans provided by Huron
Motor Products were
put to good use.
The International
Plowing Match was a
tremendous community
effort, and many rural
residents from the
Centralia area attended
and assisted with vari-
ous aspects to help con-
tribute to its success.
Alpha Tau Sorority
Fifteen members of
Alpha Tau Chapter of
Beta Sigma Phi sorority
met for lunch at The
Annex Cafe and Lounge
in Stratford on Sept. 21
to attend the quilt dis-
play at the Stratford -
Perth Museum. On view
were 134 quilts donated
by quilters across
Canada in support of
breast and cancer
research and outreach
support. The trip was
arranged by Verla
Russel and Rosemary
Schaefer who is the
chair of the quilt show.
A Gala Quilt Auction
will be held Nov. 12 at
the Church Restaurant
in Stratford. Money
raised through the sale
of quilts will go directly
to the Canadian Cancer
Society office nearest the
Upcoming activities:
The Official Board will
meet at Centralia at 8
p.m.__ on Sept. 30.
Children, teachers, and
patents from Centralia
and Zion United
Churches are invited to
attend.
Fun Night will be held
on Oct. 1 with a pftluck
supper at 6 p.m. A pro-
gram will follow.
World Wide
Communion will be cele-
brated on Oct. 3 during
worship. This is also
Food Bank Sunday.
Zion West and
Centralia UCW women
The Friends of Usborne donated a $4,500 cheque to the Usborne Central school
council last week.The money was raised during a baseball tournament and
reunion in July and will be used for playground equipment at the school. From left
are Friends of Usborne member Karen Brock, Friends secretary/treasurer
Carolyn Johns and co-chair of Usborne school council Deb Gregus. Friends of
Usborne also donated $100 to the Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre.
