In honour of this ,special occasion, worship Fall services begin at Thames Road By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD OWESPONDENT THAMES ROAD -The first fall church service was held on Sunday at Elimville with Rev. Marilyn Carter in charge. A Litany was held with different people putting things on the communion table: Presentation of the Bible, Nancy Smith and Corey; Presentation of the Curriculum, Kathy Bray, Kristy and Jessica; Presentation video, Judith Parker; Presentation of Brand and Cup, John Batten; Presentation of Directory of Thames Road and Elimville, Diane Jeffery. The Affirmation of Faith was read. Rev.- Carter told the children a story "Forgiving". The choir sang an anthem accompanied on the piano by Jean Hodgert. The scripture lesson was read by Doris Elford. The title of the minis- ter's sermon was "Seventy Times Seven." John Miner gave a report on the Council meeting. Sharon Lynn gave a minute for Mission "Earthquake m Turkey". Jack and Ferree Stewart received the offering as well as being the greeters. Barb Ballantyne pushed the -cart forward with articles for the food bank_ Coming events On Sunday Sept. 19 at Thames Road "Voices United Hymn Books" will be dedicated. October 3 at Thames Road, "World Wide Communion Service." October 10 at Elimville, "Thanksgiving Service." Personals Forty-two women plus two visitors tittended the Sept. night of the UCW by going to Kate's Station for supper, then to Blyth Festival to see the show 'Death of a Hired Man". After church on Sunday a short meeting of the UCW was held when an invitation was read from Caven women inviting the UCW to their meeting of October 5. Ken Duncan and Bill Rohde played their violins at the Fiddlers Jamboree at Kirkton on Sunday. They were accompanied by Marjorie Hodgert on the piano plus other back up. was led by the children and teachers of the Sunday School. The Christ Candle was lit by Erin and Emily Wells. Everyone joined in singing the opening hymn, Part of the Family. Carrie Powe led the Call to Worship. The Prayer of Approach was led by Karen Windsor, Superintendent of the Sunday School. Mikayla Skinner and Lindsey Powe led the con- gregation in the Prayer of Confession, followed by the Assurance of God's Forgiveness led by Heather Wells. Karen Windsor read the Hebrew Scripture. Minister Heather Scott asked everyone to consid- er Miriam's Story during her sermon. Heather and Erin Blok, assisted by their mother Charlotte, led the offering and prayer. Donna Smith led the Prayers of the People and The Lord's Prayer. The Sunday School also organized lunch for everyone follow - worship. ing activities one wishing to order The Upper Room is asked to contact June Essery by Sept. 26. The cost is $5.78 + GST. Registration will be held at 5:30 p.m., fol- lowed by supper, and will end at 10 p.m. The colt is $20. per person. Huron County is pleased to host this year's International Plowing Match from Sept. 21 to 25. A special worship ser- vice will be held on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m., with Paul Henderson as guest speaker. Many people from the Centralia will attend and participate in this year's match. Anyone flying into the area by privatercraf with a potluck supper at can land .m. A ro will tit p programfol- Centralia/Huron Par Air Park where a shuttle ser- vice to the match' will be provided by local flying clubs. Zion West United Church will celebrate their anniversary with worship on Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. Congregation members and friends are invited to attend worship at Zion. A special gift of music will be provided. by the Woodham Quartet. The Sunday School is planning lots of exciting adventures in the coming year. The Fun Night pro- gram will kick off on Oct. low. Euchre results Another activity enjoyed by local residents is the Monday afternoon euchre games. There were 11 tables of players in Crediton recently. Lillian Baynham and Lila Ellis were the high point win- ners, while lone hand winners were Pat Davis and Walter Webber.
