September 15, 1999 Sports Lucrative luau The Zeis and steel drums were out in full force on Friday at the Luau at the Oakwood Inn in Grand Bend, a fund-raiser for the 2001.Canada Summer Games. The highlight of the evening was when Oakwood owner Dave Scatcherd, left, pre- sented vice -chairperson of the Friends of the Games committee George Shaw with a cheque for $2I,900.The money was raised at the Dave Scatcherd Golf Classic in June:Shaw told the T -A over $270,000 has now been raised for the Grand Bend portion of the games and Friday night's luau was a party to celebrate. "We just want to have fun," Shaw said, adding that almost all of the 600 tickets for the event were sold. Both junior coach Scott Halpenny and midget coach Tim Anderson said it's too early to tell exactly what kind of team they will put on the court. Haipenny said nine junior age players have tried out as well as several midget players. Midget coaches Deb• Lord and Tim Anderson said more than 25 hope- ful players have. been coming to tryouts, many with honed skills. "It looks like a good team to me," .Anderson said. Last season the midget and junior boys both won Closer to -the goal; Huron -Perth. The boys start their sea- son Sept 28 at Goderich versus the hosts and Central Huron. Their first home game is Sept. 30 versus- Madill and Clinton St. Annes (senior and junior) and Seaforth and St. Annes (midget).
