concerned the cats
would be a health risk
because, according to
Overholt, they are using
the woman's garden as a
litter box.
Overholt said residents
around the Main Street
area where the
approximately 30 strays
have been seen are
feeding the animals.
The County of Huron
Health Unit confirmed
the animals. are a health
risk to the woman and
recommended council
adopt an animal control
policy.
As a result of the
problem, council will
pass a bylaw during its
October - meeting
insisting all cats have
their shots. Once the
bylaw is passed, the
village will collect the
strays and have them
euthanized because,
Overholt said to council,
"Thirty cats can turn
into 60 really fast."
Added Coun. Barb
Jeffrey of the cat
problem, "It's not just
because we don't want
them, it's a health
issue."
Overholt said she was
quoted a price of $25 per
cat to have them
euthanized and
cremated. Overholt said
the village will probably
pick a particular week to
collect the cats and warn
all cat owners to collar
or tag their cats or keep
them in the house so
they aren't mistaken as
strays.
