Lieury won game one 22-12 on home turf Aug. 18 and won the second game 14-4 in Ilderton Aug. 19. Lieury crushed- ` last year's ORSA champs Oxford Centre 20-1 and 33-4 in the first round. .Lieury had a bye through the second round before meeting up with a strong Otterville team in the semi-finals. Lieury won game one 14-3 in Otterville and then lost game two 14-10: Lieury recovered with a 4-1 wig at home, a great display of defence for the local fans. The team is made up of 10 Lieury area girls plus four Parkhill players. Lieury coach Donna Dixon and assistant Sue Rollings called Parkhill coach Wayne Windsor to get the four extra players needed to round out the team. Dixon and Rollings couldn't say enough about tile strength of their team. "We have coached the Lieury girls from T -ball age and have enjoyed every minute of it," the coaches almost said in. FERGUS — The Bluewater Tug of War club continued their win- ning ways with a stellar performance at the Canadian Championships during the Fergus Highland Games last week. The Bluewater men fin - fished first in the 640 kg, 680 kg and 720 kg weight divisions but couldn't pull out the same result in the catchweight (unlimited) weight class. The men opened the catchweight competition with wins over Quebec, Peel Police and Metro Express exit playoffs EXETER — Exeter Express men's hardball manager Doug Fairbairn has gotten used to making lemon- ade when presented with lemons on the field this year. - The final league game of the season last week in Exeter shouldn't have been the same. The Express played well. But they still l s wound up at the wrong en df o a 5- 4 game at home versus Lakeside. The loss knocked Exeter out of league playoffs. Fred Gregus led the Exeter attack with two singles and a double. Scott Russell and' Vic Oliveira both had two singles each while Nate Burns, Rick Boon, Marty Merner, Jim Petrie and Bill Shore all had sin- gles. Exeter was sound defensively, giving up only one error given to Merner. Mark Glavin came back after a three week layoff and pitched four strong innings. He gave up two earned runs on four singles while walk- ing one. Nick Regier gave up one earned run in three innings in relief. He struckout one, walked one and gave up four singles. . Scott Kemp pitched his first inning in last a month. He game up two runs on earned single le and a triple. "Losing is never a good thing but the fact that Giav and Kemper both threw pain free is a positive note heading into the OBA tourney," Fairbairn said. The Express hit the ball well with 12 hits, but they couldn't get the timely variety of hits Lakeside seemed to cor- ner the market on. . Fairbairn said his squad played better than they have most of the year. The OBA tourney is set for Labaurr'Day week- end at Glanbrook near Hamilton. Toronto Police. Bluewater won their first end of the next match over Ellice Township but were blown out with three cautions in the sec- ond end just as they were on the verge of winning. The controversial decision angered the Bluewater squad who fought back to beat Nissouri Township. On top of the scoreboard with only two team's remaining, Southeasthope and Detroit Police (who = Peel Police had earlier" beaten), Bluewater ran _out of steam and lost to the two remaining teams. Detroit Police wound up first with 15 .points, .Southeasthope Second at unison. `The Lieury and Parkhill girls get along so well together and it showed in the amount of team spirit generated. Our bats really worked well and the pitching of Carrie Dixon and Laura Michielsen shut down any offence." The Lieury-Parkhill girls will travel to the ORSA awards banquet at Grand Valley Country Club in Cambridge on Oct. 3 to accept their hardware. 14 points and Bluewater third with 13 points. The Bluewater women showed their best form in their two years together on their way to an unbeaten performance versus neer foes like Quebec and old rivals like Embro and Brantford. The women competed in the Milwaukee Irishfest on Aug. 21-22 with results to be published in next week's Times- Advocate. Bluewater next does battle at tie- Tavistock Fair on Sept. 17 and then pulls close to its Dashwood home base at the International Plowing Match on Sept. 25.
