Owner John Lund told the T -A on Saturday he's pleased, with how con- struction has gone and said things are actually slightly ahead of sched- ule. The store's grand opening is planned for Nov. 10, although doors will be open about a week before that date. According to. Lund, the building's construction has gone "excellent .. . really good." Despite a slight delay to construc- tion because of rain, workers made up for the time by working on week- ends and are now ahead of schedule. Lighting and painting have recently been fin- ished at the store and windows and shelving for the warehouse were to go up Monday. The garage portion of the store will be the last to be finished, Lund explained, saying the in- store work needs to be e first. new 20,000 sq. a. "There are nothing but pluses for the customer and staff," Lund said of the new store. Lund said the old store is simply too small and said Canadian Tire has been trying to construct a bigger store for Exeter for about six years but it's been hard to nail down a proPerty. Because of the bigger store, Lund said Canadian Tire's staff will increase by between f v to 10 full- time workers and 10 to 15 part timers. They've also hired about 60 peo- ple temporarily to stock the store. Most of the hiring has already been done, Lund said. As for the old store on Ia#n..Street, Lund esti- mated that it will close on Nov. 2..
