"Every year it's getting more competitive," Arthur said. "Any team could take it." More women are getting involved in the league each year, many who never had a chance to play hockey in their youth, she explained. "It's giving them a chance to relive their youth," she said. The league standings are closer than in past years, Arthur said, with Monday night's games changing the placement of some, teams. The grey team clinched first place on Aug. 9. For the past two years, grey and white have metin the finals. This is the first year Arthur and Rebecca Farquhar hikr,orgigijzO the league.Arthif;seid,thi,rf year has gone well and she and Farquhar will discuss ideas for next year with team reps after the play- af%S. She added the league will be looking for•more referees next season and anyone interested should call her at 2354006. The league, playing on Monday nights, has eight teams. Arthur said she has- n't heard" of any new teams wanting to enter the league but a few individuals have been looking for teams. Saturday's playoff tour- nament starts at 8 a.m. and should wind up by 4:30 p.m. Each team is guaran- teed two games. Final regular season standings: lst, Grey, 21 { points; 2nd, Burgundy, 19 pts; 3rd, White, 18 pts; 4t1, Green, 15 pts; 5th, Royal, 13 pts; 6th, Orange, 10 pts; 7th, Black, 8 pts;. Stix Yellow, 6 pts. Exeter at nation lawnbowl Centennials LONDON - It took extra time, but the Exeter Centennials men's soccer team came from behind to squeeze by Marconi 4- 3 last week to advance to the First Division League Cup final. Exeter took the lead 10 minutes into the game on a goal by Ryan Carroll. He was, set up by good pass- ing from Dave Farquhar and Mark Brintnell Marconi tied the game on a penalty shot and went up 2-1 by half-time. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Marconi added to their lead and went up 3-1. Exeter continued to press and out play Marconi and were rewarded 10 minutes Sports ce to Cup finals later,_gith a goal by Farcrarar from a high cross. A pressing Dan Martens was in the Marconi goal- keepers face who mis- played the ball which dropped into the net. Exeter continued to put the pressure on Marconi. While still down 3-2 with three minutes left in the game, Exeter was award- ed a penalty kick even though the ball was put into the net before the call. Exeter's Luke Sims made no mistake and buried the hard shot into the Marconi net. With two minutes left in extra time, Sims made a perfect pass to Farquhar who was sent away clear on the outside. Farquhar kicked a per- fect shot past a charging Marconi keeper to notch his second goal of the game, the gootirwinner. Cents coach John Baser -rg said his team pla! The date and location for the Cup final hasn't been announced yet. Exeter next hosts the Delhi Athletics in regular league play on Aug. 20, an 8 p.m. start under the lights at Community Park.
