Centralia International

international flavour this
summer with 17 Chinese
students taking a 25 -day
English language pro-
gram at the facility.
The 14-. to 18-year-olds

have already studied
English in China but their
experience this summer
in Ontario helps immerse
them in the language and
culture, Centralia

President Lauren
Sorichetti told the T -A.
The students' time is
split between classroom
studies and", field trips
with three . Canadian
teachers, who taught in
China last year, providing
instruction. One Chinese
teacher also accompanies
the class.
Sorichetti said the stu-
dents are ."absolutely
taken with Canada and
the area."
The CIA has been work -

Chinese government was
easy to work with but
there were several road-

GRAND BEND '=-1(band
Benders that want to
burn off a few extra
pounds or just stay in
shape will soon have a fit-
ness centre to call their
own.
The Grand Bend
Fitness Centre, which is
geared towards providing
fitness, health and sports
programs, will be opening
in the village this fall.
The 9000 sq. ft. facility
will be located on the cor-
ner of Ontario and Oak
streets.
The fitness centre is
the culmination of more
than a year's worth of
planning and develop-
ment by Port Frank resi-
dents Paul and Patti
.Wisniewski. Originally the
couple was just going to
open a state of the art fit-
• ness centre, but after
researching the project a
secondary opportunity
emerged.
"Almost everyone we
spoke to immediately
agreed that a fitness cen-
tre was a great idea and
something that is really
needed" said Patti, "and
most of them also com-
plained that there is just
not enough to do in this
area for adults and kids."
That's when the
Wisniewskis decided to
incorporate a gymnasium
into their facility.
The gym willprovide a
wide range of programs

adults including league
sports like floor hockey,
volleyball and badminton.
In addition, the facility is
available for special inter-
est activities such as aero-
, bits, martial arts, gym-
nastics, dance and sports
clinics.
"We'd like to get the
maximum use out if the
gym and provide as great
a variety of, programs as
possible to the communi-
ty," said Paul. "Anyone
interested In running a
program should contact
us to work out an
arrangement," said Paul.
While construction of
the new fitness centre
isn't scheduled to ' be com-
pleted until September
the Wisniewskis are look-
ing forward to their new
endeavor.
"We've had an
extremely positive
response from the public
and now that the work is
progressing it's very
exciting knowing that so
many people are looking
forward to our opening,"
said Patti.
"Grand Bend is a very
unique market given the
huge population differen-
tial between summer and
winter. We've had to take
this into account in set-
ting up a wide variety of
membership and payment
plans," explained Patti.
"We have the usual
senior, student, family
and corporate plans but
we also have takeninto
account the fact that
