Spots still available at Nursery School

ZURICH - The Bean Festival kitchen
will be cleaned tonight, Wednesday, at
6:30 p.m. in preparation for the cooking
and "stirring of beans which begins on,
Sunday, Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m. The bean
festival will be held on August 28.
Anyone wanting to travel to Our Lady
of the Rosary Shrine in Merlin at St.
Patrick's Church can still do so every
day until August 22. Mass begins at 11
a.m. and ends with benediction at 3 p.m.
Bring along your lunch and lawn chair.
Members of the Mennonite Church
held a service outdoors at Ken Gascho's
Park near Zurich. Special guests were
Clayton and Amy Kuepfer. A potluck
lunch was enjoyed by all.
The Monday Night Ladies Bowling
League will be holding an organizational
meeting at the Bowling Lanes on August
23 at 7:30 p.m. The executive team is
the Packers. New and old bowlers are
welcome. Phone Marlene at the Lanes,

Anyone interested in taking a three-
day bus trip to Muskoka and the
Cranberry Festival from October 15-17
can call Doug Erb for more information

There are still a few morning spots left
for the Bean Sprouts Nursery School this

Personals
Several weddings were held in the
area on Saturday, attended by many
from Zurich.
Jon Hendrick and Melissa
Timmerman were married on Saturday
at the United Church in Hensall, with
dinner and reception at the Hensall
Arena. Jon is the son of Bob and Linda
Hendrick of Zurich.
Kim and Mike Clarke (nee Crete) were
married on August 14 at an outdoor ser-
vice at the home of her sister Peggy and
Ralph Mathonia in Hensall. A dinner
and reception were held at the Zurich
arena. Kim is the daughter of Cord and
Jeanne Hay. Mike is the son of Roy and
Marg Clarke all of the Zurich area.
Peter Overholt and Stephanie Durand
were married on August 14 at an out-
door service at Widder Station, a golf
club near Thedford, where the dinner
and reception were also held. The bride
is,the daughter of Steve and Janet
Durand and the groom is the son of
Willy and Martha Overholt, all of the
Zurich area. Pete and Stephanie are liv-
ing at Port Franks.
Rob Luther and Joy Cooper were mar-
ried on August 14 at Our Lady of Mount
Carmel Church with a dinner and recep-
tion at the Oakwood Inn, Grand Bend.
The groom is the son of Larry and
Carole Luther of Dashwood.
Natalie Lockhart, daughter of Wayne
and Teresa, was baptized at St. Boniface
Church on Sunday by Fr. Mario.
Keith and Helen Gingerich recently
spent a week travelling to Parry Sound
and visiting with Stan and Dorothy
Sauder at their cottage. They also
stopped in the Collingwood area to see
friends.
Dick and Bette Bedard and out and
about again after both being patients in
hospital.
Angela Erb has reed home after
spending six months in Germany. She
was a nanny for five children. She is the
daughter of Rini and Doug Erb.
Bernadette Denomme visited last week
with son Mark and Theresa Denomme
at their cottage on Manitoulin Island.
A buck and doe was held for Stephanie
Peters and Doug Hugill on August 14 at
the Seaforth Arena. She is the daughter
of Jake Peters of Zurich. The couple are
planning to be married in November.
A buck and doe will be held for Karl
Regier Jr. and Erin Richardson on
August 20 at the Zurich Arena. He is the
son of Karl and Mary Regier Sr. of
Zurich. The couple will be getting mar-
ried in September.
Congratulations to teacher Vince
Trocchi and wife Stacey on the recent
arrival of their baby girl, Vanessa.
Richard and Janet Regier of Calgary
and son Ian spent last week visiting with
their parents and relatives in_ the area.
They also attended the wedding of her
nephew Jon Hendrick on Saturday.
Happy 80th birthday wishes go to
Veola Wood on August 9. A family get-
together was held at the home of her
daughter Jane and Jack Williams in
Milton. Ve'ola spent ,two months this
summer visiting with another daughter,
Karen and Gord t)ietz in British
Columbia.
Peter and Mary Brand and family trav-
elled to Nova Scotia where they visited
friends and then went for a few days to
P.E.I.
Happy birthday wishes go to Dolly
Jeffrey on August 13; Candace Becker
on August 20; Francine Vanasse on
August 17; and Monique Gelinas on
August 18.
The family of Lottie Grenier held a sur-
prise party on August 13 to celebrate
her 70th birthday. It was held at the
McCann chalet.
Lottie Grenier, Louise Hayter and
Gwen McKellar attended the United
Senior Citizens of Ontario Convention in
Kingston from August 9 to 11.

the plans for the "Luau at
Oakwood", are now final-
ized.
The date for this event is
Sept. 10 with festivities
starting at 5 p.m., and din-
ner at 7 p.m.
Entertainment and facili-
ties are being donated by
The Oakwood Inn with all
proceeds to go to the 2001
Canada Summer Games.
Tickets will be $25. each
and will go on sale Aug. 1.
They can be purchased
from any of the members
of the Friends of the
Games Committee, at
Oakwood Inn and at the
Grand Bend Municipal
Offices. Participation will
be limited to 600 persons.
According to Hank
Krech, Grand Bend Chair
of the Friends of the.
Games, the fundraising is
on schedule. As of June
30, 1999, $250,00 has
been raised versus our
$500,000 goal.

vas of individual members
of Grand Bend has com-
menced with more than
600 letters currently in the
mall requesting their par-
ticipation in our fundrais-
ing efforts.
Bruce Peat indicated that
the business community
campaign is also under-
way and is expected to be
completed by the end of
September 1999.
Based on the pastgen-
erosity of the Grand Bend
community, Krech says we
are anticipating an enthu-
siastic response which will
put us over the top.
