INotorpiek history
The Motorplex . evolved
from- the Grand Bend
Dragway which operated
from 1962-.69 where it
held seine big events
attracting such dragster
legends as Arnie. `Farmer'
Beswick, 'Big Daddy' Don
Garlits, the `Michigan
Madman' R.J. Potter,
Shirley 'Cha Cha'
Muldowney and. Bill
Maverick 'Golden'.
After being closed for 26
years, the facility
reopened under its pre-
sent owners in '95.
At 407 acres, the
Motorplex. is Canada's
largest dedicated drag
racing facility. .
The Motorplex has
increased bracket car
counts over 30 per centin
each of '97 and '98 and
spectator growth has
increased 53 - per cent in
'97 and 30 per cent in
'98.
The Motorplex was affil-
iated with the NHRA for
the first two years after
re -opening but switched
to the IHRA for the '97
season since the
Motorplex owners and
management felt they
would have a better
chance to secure a large
event with the IHRA.
