It will be a chance. to get acquainted with Fr. Mario Cassar, pas- tor for the summer. Anyone wishing to sing in a choir at the plowing match interdenominational church service can attend choir practice on August 18 at Northside United Church in Seaforth at 7:30 p.m. The choir will sing at the Zurich. Community Centre on September 19 at 7 p.m. Glad Days will be held in Zurich on August 5 and 6. If you can help sell flowers phone Mat or Rhonda at 1- 800-387-52519. The Zurich. Bean Festival is set for Saturday, August 28. Friday evening is Cruise Night when many antique cars will leave from the Community Centre Park at 7 p.m. and be back in time for the fireworks that begin at dusk. On Saturday morning a pancake and sausage breakfast will be served at the arena from 7 to 10 a.m. Bean dinners will be served beginning at 11 a.m. There will be entertainment on Main Street all day, along with an open street market :and midway rides. Bingo will be played at the arena and there will be a car show at the park. A frog jumping contest is planned for the children at 3 p.m. in the parking lot of C.G. Farm Supply. Entrants are to bring their own frog. The official opening will be held at noon on the Main Stage. A dance, will begin at 9 p.m. on the ice surface at the arena. Two live bands will supply the music. Those who helped at the Zurich Fair are invited to an appreciation potluck at the Hay Township Hall on August 5 at 6:30 p.m. The Arena fundraising committee are planning a co-ed ball tournament this weekend, August 6 and 7, at the park. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. at the park. The run, walk, bike, roller -blade etc. begins at 2 p.m. Pledge sheets are available at stores around town or by phoning Wendy at 236-4882. Jerome and Carmel Sweeney along with Butch Sweeney of Pine Lake spent Saturday and Sunday in Durham and Dornoch to attend the surprise retire- ment and 65th birthday party celebration for rela- tive Edward Sweeney. Heather, Paul and Heidi Klopp also attended on Saturday. Jim and Denise Dietrich and three children spent the civic holiday weekend camping at Ausable Beach. Michele Gelinas from New Westminster, B.C. is visiting her. parents Mozart and Marie Gelinas Sr. and family members in the area. The family of Don and Alice Masse held their annual reunion on July 24 at the home of daughter Brenda and Rob Grenier at Parkside subdivision. Josie Denomme is home recuperating from a broken leg. Josephine Dietrich is now a resident at Blue Water Rest Home. Leisa and Tom McBride have a baby girl, Kara Jean, born July 27. This is their fourth child. Patty and Joey Groot had a baby boy, Benjamin Philip, on July 30, the cou- ple's third child. Cheryl and Martin Gelinas had a baby girl, Cosette Nicole on July 31, their sev- enth child. A surprise fifteenth birth- day party was held for Phil Durand on Saturday at the home of Joe and Liz Durand, RR #1 Bayfield. His actual birthday was August 3. A bridal shower was held for Julie Steckle on July 30 at the Mennonite Church. She is the fiancee of Jon ' Theurer. They are planning. to be married in August.. Julie is the daughter of Stu and Ruth -Ann Steckle of RR #2 Zurich. Deb Telford and children along with Shelley and Paul Bedard Jr. and Brianne spent a few days last week at Santa Claus Village in Bracebridge.
