Club wins provincial titles V. ;• By Katherine Harding TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF DASHWOOD -- For the second year in a row Friedsburg Days and the Dashwood -based Bluewater Tug of War Club hosted the Ontario championships on Saturday. Despite a short rain delay, the crowds enjoyed four hours of intense competition. The Bluewater Tug of War men's and women's teams both won titles at the tournament attended by teams as far away as Detroit and Ingersoll. The men captured the 720 lb. class and the women easily took home their division title. The men's team also placed third in the catch - weight division behind Ellice Twp. and the Detroit Police clubs. "I think the whole week and ail the planning for the event took a lot out of us," said Bluewater team member Ted Hoffman about the men's third place finish. "All in all though we did well considering our weight." Both teams have been coached for the past two ` . years by Londoner Jing Connelly who originally hails from Waterford, Ireland. During the competition athletes from the teams were treated to free massages by 15 students from the D'Arcy Lane School, of Massage Therapy. On Aug. `14, the Bludler teams will -travel to the Fergus Highland Ganes to compete in the North American . championships. In June, the Executive Board of the • International Olympic Committee recognized Tug of War as an Olympic sport. The recognition will be provisional for two years. 4.
