Back row (I- r): Kim Cook, Cheryl Cook and Catherine Jones. • 33 � - o enjoyment Granton Fun Day By Muriel Leers GRANTON CORRESPONDENT GRANTON -.The Granton Fun Day was held on Saturday, July 24 beginning with a parade from the cenotaph corner led by Chris Mills and pet Moe followed by the Granton tanker. Next came the walking class with Kelly Thorpe and Alexandra Acimovic taking first, Shelley Thorpe second and Chelsey and Carly Feisen third. Other walkers were Kylie, Sara and Amy Lovell, Tracy Orchard, Sabrena Kenny, Sara Markin and Shari Green. In the 'Push and Pull' category Jennifer Hardy and Kristian Orchard as clowns pulling a wagon with guinea pigs were first. Placing second and third were Blake and Jordan Betancourt as a bride and Spiderman. Parading their animals were Breanne Maynard with dog Lues placing first; Tonya Westman with Shelties Peaches, Marcedes and Wooly were second; and Patrick Broughton with his dog Mickey was third. The final children's class was bikes, some of which were decorated as Christmas presents. First was Jessica Lupson; second - Andrew Shainline and third - Benjamin Lovell. Others were Kane Parker, Steven Mayo, Aaron Pritchard, Michael Shainline, Max Westman, Carly Westman, Mynta Westman and Suzie Acimovic. First prize for floats was captured by Cliff Cook and family with the Granton Line train. The Biddulph Township Sesquincentennial History Book float was sec- ond and a Christmas float by Janette Hudson and Rosanne Pritchard with Melissa, Mayo, Riker and Monique Hudson was third. In the Antique Tractor class first was a 1948. Cockshott, second - 1944 Massey Fergus owned by the Cook family and third a Marconie Super 8, also from the Cook family. Eric and Donna Westman placed first and second with their classic trucks, a 1953 Chevy and Buick Wildcat. There were also two horses with clown riders, one of which was Jean Swaderski. The parade continued up Main Street to the park with fire trucks from St. Marys, Lucan, Ailsa Craig, Exeter and Milverton in honour of the 75th anniversary of the Granton Fire Department. up the rear was Howard Longley Enterprises, Sarnia 1948 ladder truck. At the park there were games for the children and a food booth prorided by the Lions Club who sponsored the annual event. • Que4sw.birthdays celebrated HENSALL - Queensway residents enjoyed Monday afternoon's .ice cream parlor. Winnie Hutton with the help of Belva Fuss at the organ, officiated at the Tuesday church service. Residents were able to sing some of their favorite hymns. Wednesday afternoon the tuck cart visited each floor, and .residents had the opportunity to browse through books, magazines and other goodies the cart has to offer. .On Thursday, July birthdays were celebrated and • many. residents had a manicure in preparation .for the evening party. Senior Diners enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the trimmings and joined in the birthday bash with the Granton Rhires _ providing .lively_ music to dance to. Celebrating July birthdays are Pat Volland, Margaret Barnard, Harry McAdams, and Dorothy Taylor. Residents participated in Fun and Fitness throughout the week. Hamburgers and hot dogs were served at lunch on Friday and then some residents relaxed and watched a movie in the Activity Room.. ,tom �.
