The fencing project at the Exeter horse ring got a $2,000 boost last week from:,
Molson Canada's Local Heroes program. Dalton Finkbeiner applied for and `#t' -
received the funding which will cover one-third of the costs of materials.
Finkbeiner wants the funds used to better serve the Exeter Rodeo, Exeter Saddle
Club and the Exeter and Area Agricultural Society. More money is still needed to
pay for the project and Jo -Anne Fields hopes user groups will donate fiends. In

Masters fall to Carpet Place
LONDON - The Exeter Masters soc-
cer team fell to defeat on July 21 in
London against Carpet Place, 4-2.
Things got off to a good start for the
Masters when striker Paul
Vandewalle scored the game's first
goal early.
But team spokesperson Brad
Lightfoot said Carpet Place turned the
game around and scored the game's
next -four goals.
Vandewalle also scored the Masters'
second goal.

Unearned runs spell disaster

EXETER -- The Exeter
Express senior men's
hereon team would like
to put last week behind
them after losing all three
games.
On July 20, Exeter fell
15-5 to Strathroy even
though the game was tied
3-3 until the sixth inning.
Manager Doug Fairbairn
said the team "just flat
out stopped
executing.
Strathroy
scored
seven runs
in the sixth
(three
unearned)
and didn't
look back.
Rick Boon
pitched five
and two-
thirds innings and gave
up seven runs, six of them
earned. He struck out
seven and walked one,
gave up five singles, two
doubles and two home
runs.
Dan Masse came in to
stop the bleeding but was
the victim of three
unearned runs in two and
one-third innings. He
struck out one, walked
three and surrendered
four singles. hi one inning
of relief, Jim Petrie gave
up three ruins One et
them earned), struck out
one and gave up five sin-
gles.

Russell led the team with
three singles and a home
run, Nate Burns had

"Scott pitched a really
strong game for us,"
Fairbairn said.
"For the most part we
had a real good game. We
had chances to score but
just couldn't get a timely
hit...," he added.
Burns and Scott Russell
each hit a single and a
double. Fred Gregus,
Boon and Marty Merner
each hit singles while
Kemp contributed a dou-
ble.
