HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes Advocate, 1999-07-28, Page 11Wednesday, July 28, 1999 Exeter Times -,Advocate 11 Community Biddulph's Sesquicentennial warms up with barbecue By Muriel Lewis GRANTON CORRESPONDENT GRANTON - The Warm Up to '150' Barbecue for Biddulph's Sesquicentennial, in July 2000 was held at the Granton Park Pavilion on Saturday, July 24, catered by 'On the Cue' from Lucan was a great suc- cess attended by over 300 people. Entertainment was provided by a singing group under the direction of Jackie Martens during. Committee chairperson Phyllis O'Neill presented the CD Players to Chris Mathers, winner of the logo con- test. Other logo entrants received Biddulph Township pins, including Colleen O'Shea, Tonya Westman, Savannah Thepmontry, Jenna Coxon and Keila McCullough. Andrea French did a great job as the mascot `Bizzy Beavers' and was instrumental in the History Book Float capturing second prize in the Fun Day parade. The Biddulph Celebrations Committee met at the township office on :Monday evening, July 19 to judge the logos, assess the barbecue ticket sales and to establish a mission statement for the celebrations. Congratulations from the community to Kent James Harding and Kari Marie Foster who were married at St. James Westminster Church, London on Saturday, July 24. Granton U.C.W. Unit 5 members and husbands enjoyed a potluck din- ner hosted by Mary and Bill Jones at their cottage in Port Franks recently. Sixteen attended and enjoyed the social time which followed. Mary Elliott hosted the July meeting of the Marion Ritchie W.M.S. at her home on July 20 at 8 p.m. with 11 members and two visitors present. Alice Gardiner presided for the business portion of the meeting when upcom- ing events were discussed and plans made for lunch after the first church ' ser- vice. She was also able to attend the funeral of her uncle Ken Bearss. On Sunday a farewell gather- ing of family and friends was held at her parents home, Larry and Alice Gardiner., After "enjoying" hot, humid weather in Ontario, she went back to cold weather in Alberta. Barb, Terry and John Hartman, Exeter, visited' on Wednesday with John and Roberta Templeman in Mitchell. On Sunday, July 25 the Granton United Church ser- vice was held in the park pavilion, preceded with a breakfast. Lay Pastor Val Hodgins led the service and guest Bob Heywood of Exeter presented the message in word and song, self -accompanied on the accordion. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sunday, July 25 Canon Michael Grin of Stratford led the com- munion service with the congregation of St. James Church, St. Marys in attendance. The message was entitled 'Nothing can Separate us from the Love of God.' Kathy Blackler was the reader and Mary Blackler sang `Jesus Remembers when all the World Forgets.'
