Times Advocate, 1999-07-28, Page 9• Wednesday, July 28, 1999 Family Church picnic planned in Varna By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA - This Sunday, Aiig. 1 church will be in Varna at 10:30 a.m. with the Celebration of "International Year of Older Persons" . Musical guests will be "Mary and Friends" from the Wingham area. Sunday, August 8 the church picnic will be held at the Stanley Park by the fake. Musical guests will be Bob Robilliard and the Exeter Community Band. A potluck lunch and games will fol- low. Vacation Bible, School runs from August 3 until August 6 at the Brucefield church from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The theme will - be "The Great Bibleland Dig, Exploring the Life of Jesus". There are still a few baseball games going on at the ball diamond. Thursday, July 29 the mite girls at 7 p.m., Friday, July 30 the slo-pitch team at 9 p.m. ; Monday, August 2 the Vipers play at 9 p.m; and Wednesday August 4 the Agricos play at 7 p.m. Corrections In the July 19th edi- tion of the Exeter Times Advocate, it was stated under a. picture the afternoon rain forced the cancellation of many events for Crediton's Fun Day. In fact, only one event was cut short. Brenda Feeney, enter- tainment chair for the Crediton Optimist Club stated "Fun was had by all. It was certainly a super day. Spirits were high and they continued :throughout the whole day." The Crediipa Optimist Club is deffirtely opti- mistic about the Fun Days in the year 2000. Last week's story on the 50th anniversary of the Exeter Saddle Club contained an error in a cutline. Al Parsons was incorrectly identified in one of the photos. The actual rider was Jim Storey. Vacation Bible School held atThames Road By Rhoda Rohde TheMELMAUUNIREskszDacc THAMES ROAD - Thirty-one children par- ticipated in the Vacation Bible School with the theme "Under God's Rainbow" at Thames Road Church on Sunday afternoon. Seven girls from the Youth Class were the leaders and supper was enjoyed by all. Church service Rev. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the church service on Sunday morning at Thames Road. She lit the Christ Candle with the help of Alana Hotlgert. The choir sang "I'm Travelling On Glory Avenue" accompanied by organist Jean Hodgert. Rev. Carter's sermon was entitled "A Penny For Your Thoughts". Barry Jeffery and Brian Pym received the offering. Life and work of the congregation The Building Committee will have a meet- ing tonight,. Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. at Thames Road Church. Congregation members are reminded to bring food items for the Food Bank next Sunday, August 1. From August 8 to September 6, Rev. Carter will be on vacation and there will be no ser- vices. In case of an emergency, contact Joan Skinner, 229-6295. The U.C.W. will be going to Blyth Festival on September 7 to see "Death of the Hired Hand". It is a nostalgic play about a thresh- ing gang straining to win the battle against time and the elements. The play begins at 8 p.m. and optional supper plans are being arranged. This will replace the regular U.C.W. September meeting. Personals Many people from this area were to Goderich on Saturday to see the Mickey Mouse parade. Murray and Beatrice Dawson left the com- munity on Monday and have moved to their new home south of Grand Bend. They will be greatly missed. A going away party was held for them recently at the home of Ray and Alice Cann. Kay Morey, Floyd and Shirley Cooper attended the 25th wedding anniversary cele- bration for Clare and Deb McRobert at their home on the 10th of Blanshard.
