Crediton Bantams take '13' consolation
• PORT ELGIN - The
Crediton Bantam girls
travelled to Port Elgin for
its annual softball tourna-
ment.
In Crediton's first gams,
a fast and predse pitcher
from the Cambridge team
allowed only Megan
Preszcator, Carie Pertschy
and Jessica Davies to
reach first base. Crediton's
opponents kept Crediton
scoreless in a 10-0 game.
The Crediton team was
again on the losing side in
their second game.
Eleven strikeouts by
Waterloo's pitcher seemed
to be the problem for the
team.
Great defensive plays
throughout the game
helped keep the Waterloo
team from capitalizing.
Robin Nicholson, Leanne
Erb and Megan Preszcator
gave their team some key
catches defensively and
Jessica Davies and Carie
Pertschy played strong
and solid positions at
shortstop and second
base. Davies and Pertschy
showed their expertise
with a crowd -pleasing
dual catch. Krista Hodge
and Nikki Cyr played
strong in the catcher's
position.
After the flu bug struck
call-up pee wee pitcher
Andrea Glavin, Pertschy
and Martene again had to
share pitching duties.
After being bumped up
from the 'C' division,
Crediton played the first
place team in the 'B' semis
- the home team Port
Egin•
The Bantam team
played an excellent game
both defensively and
offensively to knock the
top team out of contention
with a 13-3 mercy.
Offensively, Cyr went 4
for 4 at the plate with
three singles and a field-
er's choice, Erb went 3 for
3 wfth a home run, single
and &triple, Davies went 3
for 4 at the plate with'a
home run and two singles,
Lindsay Parsons drove in
runs with 'a double and a
long home run. Preszcator
reached base three time
on walks, Hodge reached
first three tines with two
singles and a fielder's
choice, Pertschy batted
out a double and reached
first after being hit by a
pitch, Robin Nicholson
helped the cause with a
long double and Andrea
Glavin and Elisha Martens
reached first base on
walks.
Parsons, Davies and Cyr
gunned out an opponent
at home after she tried to
stretch her triple into a
home run, Pertschy and
Davies shared the prestige
of another double play,
•Erb came up with some
• key catches on third base
and Preszcator plays
standing on first base
weekend long. Hodge,
Parsons and Nicholson
played a very solid field
with Martene pitching
expertly four of the five
innings notching three
stikeouts.
In the B final on Sunday
afternoon, the Crediton
Bantams ended up with
the consolation prize after
a 3-1 loss again to
Waterloo.
It was a hard fought bat-
tle with Crediton again
meeting a speedy and
accurate pitcher.
Again with only nine
defensive players on the
Crediton squad, the girls
showed true grit and heart
holding Waterloo to three
Erb caught cwo line dri-
ves on third, key catches
by Lindsay Parsons, Nikki
Cyr, Carie Pertschy and
Elisha Martene helped
keep Waterloo scoreless
until the fourth inning.
Another double- play by
Davies, Pertschy and
Preszcator and another
outstanding game by
Davies gave the Crediton
team lots to cheer about.
Cyr, Krista Hodge, Elisha
Martene, Robin Nicholson
Pertschy and Davies led
Crediton offensively.
