HADC clears up inaccuracy
Dear Editor:
HADC (Huron Adult Day Centre) staff,
volunteers and clients have been over-
whelmed by the wonderful response of
the public towards our problem with the
County of Huron and wish to thank each
and everyone of the concerned citizens
who have written to the County, Helen
Johns, local municipalities and the edi-
tors of the local papers, or who have
phoned or dropped in to voice their sup-
port personally.
The media coverage has been excep-
tional, and as far as anything quoted by
IIADC personnel, has been reported very
accurately. However, I would like to clear
up one very glaring inaccuracy from
Warden Carol MitcheIl's statements
which annoys. me every time I hear it, or
see it in print.
Several tunes in the press and also at
the county council meeting on July 8, it
was said that our Board of Directors
agreed to this exorbitant rent increase
when it was relayed to them at a meeting
of the administration, finance and per-
sonnel committee on Oct. 16, 1997. I
would like to point out that HADC Board
members attending that meeting were
not shown the proposal or figures that
county committee members had in front
of them and in fact left the meeting after
some discussion, requesting that the pro-
posal be faxed to HADC so that it could be
dealt with by the Board at its next meet-
ing.
g.
Anyone should know that a charitable
organization cannot make an agreement
without board approval. HADC and the
Ministry representative subsequently left
the meeting with no indication given that
this was in any way acceptable to either
of them. Just where did the clerk/admin-
istrator or the warden get the idea that
we had agreed to the proposal?
On November 17, 1997, HADC Board
met with the ministry programnie super-
visor to discuss the motion made by
county to charge HADC $7.50 per square
foot for the space used. At that time it
was stated that HADC could not afford
this cost. The ministry supervisor stated
that the Mipistry could not support any
more money for occupancy costs.
On Dec. 22, 1997 a letter was mailed to
county council stating that the HADC
board of directors found the rent propos-
al totally unacceptable.
I think it way past the time when con-
cerns regarding the complete accuracy of
information being passed on to council
members and the public is addressed.
Sincerely, ROSEMARY ARMSTRONG,
Executive Director, HADC
