Exeter Royals fastball b
EXETER --- The
Exeter Royals junior
men's fastball club
improved their season
record to nine wins and
three losses with a 10-
2 win over the Mitchell
Chiefs Sunday night.
Shortstop Steve
Leonhardt led the
Exeter offence with a
single, triple and three
runs batted in while
also scoring a run.
Dan Murrell singled
twice, scored two runs
and drove in three
runs.
Ryan Sanders and
pitcher Scott Leonhardt
both added two • singles
as did catcher Gavin
Snell.
Leonhardt pitched six
innings and picked up
the victory. He allowed
two runs on six hits

Ingersoll 2-1
INGERSOLL --- The
Exeter women's soccer
team proved they can
bounce back after a long
hiatus by defeating the
host Ingersoll Flyers 2-1
on Sunday.
The win was a big one
for Exeter since the
unbeaten- Flyers lead the
Division II Central
Division standings. The
game was a divisional
crossover affair.
Exeter came out strong
immediately from the
kick-off and made no mis-
take in controlling and
setting the tone for the
game. Strong passing and
tight defensive marking
were the keys to Exeter's
success.
Midway through the
first half, Keri Brownlee
(a call up from the U-19
team) scored on a pass
back from Cindy Moore.
Brownlee
icked upthe
P
pass just at the top of the
box and walked in to bury
the ball in the net..
Exeter went up 2-0
early in the second half
when Kristin Strang
deflecteda shot from '.
Becci Farquhar into the
net.
Ingersoll scored their
lone goal late in the game-
,on
ame-
,on a corner kick.
Exeter's defensive core
of Adrienne Sims, Tracey
Taylor, Adriana DeBont
(another call up from the
U-19 team while Lisle
Geurts was away) led by
sweeper Peggy Brownlee
played exceptionally well.
The win will hopefully
build to the team's •
momentum as they play
their.next game at home
on Sunday at 7. p.m. ver-
sus the strong Division II
Central St. Thomas in
another interlocking
game.
Exeter's record stands
at 4-5-0 (wins, losses,
ties).
The team's two week
layoff included a forfeited
game by Wallacetown on
June 27.
