Staff changes rade for next September at Zurich schools

ZURICH - Zurich won
the bronze trophy at the
Tri -County Senior Games
in St. Marys on June 14
and 15. Exeter came in
first .and St. Marys sec-
ond. Zurich winners
included: the 5 pin bowl-
ing team: Elaine Weido,
Wm. Muller, Robert
Horner, Mary Fickling
and Madeline Desjardin
(gold medals), Lottie
Grenier and Orlen
Schwartzentruber - (Solo
gold medalists); Della
Gascho and Marie Cyr
(crokinole fingers gold
medalists); Doreen Oesch
and Ken Gascho (croki-
nole sticks gold medal-
ists); Doris Hamilton and
Paula and Harry
VanOsch (lawn bowling
silver medalists); and
Marie Gelinas and Bill
Goudie (bridge bronze
medalists). Zurich had 27
participants and 24
attended the closing ban-
quet.
A musical pageant on
the life of Christ called
"The Promise" will .be
held at the Forest
Amphitheatre (just off
Hwy. #2) on July 2, 3 and
4, then again on July 9,
10 and 11. The show
starts at 8:30 p.m. Adults

from July 5 to 9 at the
Mennonite Church Hall
from 8:45 a.m. to noon
for children ages five to
grade 10. A program will
be held on Friday
evening, July 9, at 7:30

The Zurich Optimist
Club held their last
school dance for the
..
youth on Tuesday at the
Zurich Public School.
Several prizes were won.
The family dinner for
the residents was held at
the Blue Water Rest
Home recently. A musical
program was held in the
main hall.
St. Boniface Youth Club
members are reminded
to sell almonds to cover
the cost of the bus for a
trip to Canada's
Wonderland in Toronto
on July 12. The money is
to be returned to Denise
Meidinger. A day pass is
$25 per person.
Members of the Zurich
Lions Club and the
Agricultural Society are
selling elimination draw
tickets at $10 each. The
draw will be held July .23
in connection with the
Zurich Fair. The variety
show begins at 7 p.m.
There are lots of money
prizes to be won, plus all
the beef burgers you can
eat.
Tickets and stubs can
be brought to the next
fair board meeting at the
Township Hall on July 7
or given to Lions Louis
Willert, Zurich or John
Becker, Dashwood.
Tickets are available at
J&L Variety Store or
from members of both
clubs.

International Year of the
Older . Person was com-
memorated Friday at the
Hensall .Community
Centre with Queensway
Nursing Home residents
in attendance.
Auxiliary volunteer
Jessie Archer was among
those honoured. She has
volunteered at
Queensway for many
years providing friend-
ship and caring to all res-
idents but especially to
those who have no fami-
ly. She remembers them
with cards and notes
even when she's off to
Florida for the winter.
She and several other
volunteers contribute
much to the quality of life
of Queensway residents.
The Nashville Rejects
entertained at the
monthly birthday party
Thursday evening.
Several Senior Diners
stayed to celebrate birth-
days for Marg :Coates,
Mary Broadfoot and
Gertie Moir.
Shirley Luther led wor-
ship service on Tuesday
and spent time visiting
with residents. Belva
Fuss was volunteer
organist and Marg Cole
assisted residents.
The Christian Reformed
Women of Exeter visited
Monday afternoon and
assisted several residents
with walks and-wbeel-
chair rides. They also
served ice cream to all
those enjoying the out-
doors. •

Boniface was held on the
last day of school.
The principal at Zurich
Public School, Mr.
Nicholls, is retiring. Mr.
Al Sygrove,will replace
him in September. Mr.
Brock will be leaving
Zurich to teach in
Brussels.
Michele Haberer who
has been head of the
Student Council for the
past two years is step-
ping ,down and Lisa
Dietrich will take over
her duties in the fall.
Zurich' Playground hold
registration at the arena
for children ages four to
12 on June 28 and 29.
There was also registra-
tion for swimming
lessons in Vanastra for
five weeks.
The Women's Institute
District Picnic will be
held on July 6 .at the
Crediton Community
Park, hosted by the
Elimville. group. The fun
begins at noon. For more
information about rides,
phone Bridget Groot.
The commencement
ceremony at St. Anne's
High School, Clinton will
be held June 30 for the
first graduating class
since the school was
built.
Lee and Rose Regier
and her sister Therese
Stark spent the weekend
in Windsor visiting family
members.
A St. Boniface C.W.L.
meeting was held recent-
ly. The guest speaker
was from Community
Living in Dashwood. The
League presented
rosaries to the grade 8
graduating class along
with the K. of C.
Some members are
going on a bus trip to the
Shrine in Merlin, near
Chatham, on July 13 with
the Grand Bend League.
Men .are also welcome.
The bus leaves Grand
Bend at 8:45 a.m. The
cost is $15 each. Bring
your lunch.

Don and Donna O'Brien
returned home from a
recent trip to the
Maritima. In Nova
Scotia they teamed up
with Betty and Don Oke
and Ruth and Ken Oke to
tour Newfoundland, Cape
Breton Island and
Quebec City together.
Max and Margaret
Ducharme celebrated
their 60th wedding
anniversary on June 27
with a Mass said for their
Intentions at St.
Boniface Church on
Sunday. An open house
was held in the parish
hall afterwards followed
by a family supper at the
Ducharme's home in
Zurich.
A buck and doe was
held for Peter Overholt
and Stephanie Durand on
June 26 at the Zurich
Community Centre. Peter
is the son of Willy and
Martha Overholt, and
Stephanie is the daughter
of Steve and Janet
Durand, all of the Zurich
area. The couple are to
be married in August.
Gary Deichert and
Tracy Harris were mar-
ried on June 26 in
Dashwood. Gary is the
son of Doris Hamilton of
Zurich. Relatives of the
bride attended the wed-
ding from England and
Australia. The couple are
living in Zurich.
Clem and Theresa
Regier celebrated their
51st anniversary on June
26 with a family get-
together and barbecue
supper at their Zurich
home.
The family of Clare and
Lucille Masse recently
held their summer family
reunion at St. Peter's
Parish Hall at St. Joseph.

who lost his brother Fr.
William Morris in
Windsor this past week.
