By all accounts, last Saturday's 40th Anniversary of
McGillivray Central School was a complete success.
Organizer Rita Lewis said she was "very, very
pleased" with the day, which saw nearly 600 people
attend. As organizers had only originally been plan-
ning for a crowd of only a few hundred, Lewis said the
reunion became bigger than anticipated.
The day began with an open house in the afternoon,
giving the chance of former and current students to
mingle, followed by the official opening at 4 p.m. with
a cake -cutting ceremony, which included McGillivray's
first principal, Ila Hamilton. The ceremonies also fea-
41
tured songs by the school's junior choir and former
student Kerrie Menu -0y.
All past staff, principals and bus drivers were also
invited before the crowd for recognition.
Dinner followed and Lewis said the day wrapped up
at about 7:30 p.m. She added the day went smoothly
and said perfect weather helped.
While she hasn't paid all the bills yet, Lewis said any
profits made from the reuniorr will either go directly
back into the school or into an account to prepare for
the school's 50th anniversary.
