Fury ambush Palestinians, unbeaten in four
EXETER The Exeter
Fury soccer team extend-
ed their unbeaten streak
to four games after a 4-3
comeback victory over the
London Palestinians at
Exeter Community Park
Sunday.
The game started on the
right foot for the Fury as
Tim Proctor made a nice
move to spin and shoot,
finding the corner to give
Exeter a 1-0 lead early
on.
The visitors responded a
while later on a miscue in
the Fury end and the
score was quickly tied.
The Palestinians got few
scoring chances in the
first half but a question-
able hand ball gave them
a penalty shot which they
scored on giving them a
2-1 lead.
The home squad contin-
ued with their game plan
of keeping the ball to the
outside of the field and
making short passes and
it soon paid off.
Chad Monteith was sent
in on a break but was
hauled down at the edge
of the box. Proctor put the
ball in the right corner to
score on the ensuing
penalty kick.
The Fury controlled
most of the second half
which resulted in numer-
ous scoring chances but
'the score remained tied.
Chris Saunders, who
had a strong game defen
sively, gave a nice touch
pass that sent Proctor in

the visitors got had to be
finished and hat's what
they did. A quick hard
shot from 30 yards was
well placed and out of the
reach of . Fury kgeper
Craig Winbow.
Down 3-2 and time run-
ning out, Exeter
increased the pressure.
Monteith found a loose
ball amidst a scramble in
front and knocked it over

With under 10 minutes
to go, the game seemed
destined for a tie. But the
Fury, sensing the
Palestinians were sitting
back anticipating the sin-
gle point, played for the
win.
With only a couple min-
utes left, Brian Brand
played a short corner kick
to Jason McFalls who laid
it back. Brand passed to
Ryan Hern at the top of
the box. Hern floated a
shot that hit the crossbar
and came down on the
foot of Proctor who
scored for the hat trick
and a 4-3 win.
"This game was a great
character builder for this
team," McFalls said. "We
never gave up when we
were behind but we didn't
want to take the tie
either."
Exeter's record stands
at 2-3-2 in the west sec-
tion of the WOSL's Third
Division. The Fury has
tied two and won two
over the past four games.
Exeter travels to
Strathroy for a League
Cup game tonight versus
the Premier team and
head to Lando Sunday
for a game versus the
Kurdish in regular League
play.

Express fall to Byron 74
EXETER - Exeter Express senior men's hardball
manager Doug Fairbairn is putting a positive spin on
last week's 7-4 home loss to Byron.
He noted Mark Glavin has stepped up to pitch some
strong innings of relief to give starter Scott Russell a
much needed rest.
Glavin gave up one single and hit one batter but
allowed no runs in his three and two thirds innings of
relief work.
Russell gave up six singles, five doubles, a home run
and two walks over five and a third innings.
Fairbairn was hoping the full week off between
games would give Russell the rest he needs.
The Express defense took another knock and
allowed three errors.
Dave Russell led the Exeter hit parade with a single
and a double. Singles were batted by Vic Oliveira, Fred
Gregus, Rick Boon, Glavin and Scott Kemp while Dave
Hawke added a double.
The Express hosted Lakeside yesterday atter press
