earned its first point of the season with a 1-1 tie. "We'll take it," Exeter Masters
player Brad Lightfoot said, "It has to start somewhere." Lightfoot said the game
was an even affair and both teams had their chances. Peter Hakvoort scored'kr

things to come;' Lightfoot said. Exeter next travels.to London Friday to face

Cents knock off unbeaten Chatham
•
CHATHAM -- The
Exeter Centennials soccer
team gave the undefeated
Chatham Express itsfirst
loss of the season Friday.
The visiting Centennials
defeated Chatham 1-0
despite missing four regu-
lar players due to in41uries.
Coach John Rasenberg
said numerous players
were assigned different
positions due to the
injuries. Exeter was led
by the "positive attitude"
of captain Mark Lynn.
"Chatham ran into a
very tight marking Exeter
team that did not give
them an inch," Rasenberg
said.
Exeter's defensive game
was anchored by solid
goalkeeping from George
McEwan and full backs
Mark Bell, Scott
Rasenberg and Travis
Nairn.
The score at the end of
the first half was 0-0.
Chad GIif llein scored
Exeter's winning goal
about 20 minutesinto the
second half.
The midfield play of
Centennials Mark
Brintnell, Ryan Carroll,
Luke Sims and Dave
Farquhar was great,
Rasenberg said.
Exeter forwards Charlie
Walker, Shaun Rotteau
and Exeter Fury •call up
Chad Monteith did a lot of
running including coming
back to help shut down
the Chatham team.
"It was a great win con-
sidering the players that
were out," Rasenberg
said. "It shows the char-
acter of this team."
Exeter's record in the
WOSL First Division is 3-
1-1 (wins, losses, ties).
The Cents host a League
Cup game tonight versus
the Bosnia Premier team
at 8:30 p.m. under the
lights at the Community
Park pitch. •
Exeter will play their
official Community Park
pitch opener versus the
Wallaceburg Sting Friday,
the game starting at 8
p.m. with the ' ribbon -cut-
ting at 7:30 p.m.
