celebrate 25th annivers
AILSA CRAIG - Ailsa Craig Gala Days
and Turtle Races is celebrating its 25th
anniversary this year on the July 16-18
weekend. The volunteers have again put
together an exceptional program for all
ages. The Village of Ailsa Craig is also
celebrating its 125th anniversary of
incorporation.
The weekend starts on Friday evening
with a mini -tractor pull, followed by a
family karaoke night in the Recreation
Centre.. Saturday morning starts with
the Gala Days Parade with a special
show from the OPP Golden Helmets
motorcycle. group. The 125 anniversary
committee has challenged people to
enter the parade with their oldest trans-
portation and have things or people,
• adding up to 125. Following the parade,
the park grounds are open for many
• activities. There will.be a spelling con-
test, baby and pet shows, antiquers,
crafters, displays, entertainment and of
• course the Turtle Races. Saturday
evening is topped off with a licensed out-
door dance featuring the band 'Splash'.
• There is breakfast in the park on
Sunday morning followed by the rein-
stated 'Bed Races' down main street
from Town Hall to the 125 anniversary
banner. The Ailsa Craig Business
Association has put a lot of work into
this event. After the bed races, there is
church in the park, followed in the after-
noon by the adult Turtle Races. 'Science
Sense' - a program showing how fun sci-
ence can be - will be going no in the Rec
Centre for the children, also an "old
tyme fiddle jamboree" in the afternoon..
Following the Sunday roast beef dinner
is the awards presentation and the well -
attended Gospel Sing.
The previous Grand Marshals have
been invited to ride in the parade and
perform various duties on the weekend.
The Ailsa Craig Historical Museum will
also be open. On July 1 for Canada Day
there will be Scottish celebration to
kick off the summer.
