Raising funds for refugees
Stephen Cenri-al School students raised $527.79 for Kosovar refugees through a hot dog lunch Friday.The
student council increased the total by $222.21 for a grand total of $750. Students, teachers and parents con-
tributed to make the fund-raiser a success. One parent sent enough money for all the studentsin her son's
classroom to participate.The school council and Tim Hortons split the costs of the donuts.The money will be
distributed to the refugees through the Salvation Army. From left, Jenna Becker, Chelsea Brooks, Jonathan

U.C.W. was held on
Tuesday evening at
Flimville Church. Shirley
Kerslake welcomed
everyone and gave the

reading entitled "The
Power of Christian Song".
The roll call was taken
with the women each
telling their favourite
hymn.
Kerslake read about
"The Christian Faith
Hymns." The group sang
"What a Friend We Have
in Jesus", written by
Joseph Striven. Diane
Jeffery told a story about
the hymn.
They then sang "All The
Way My Saviour Leads
'Me" written by Fanny
Crosby, and Kathy Bray
told a story about it.
Helen Webber read
"The Touch of the
Master's Hand."
Kerslake gave a reading
entitled "The Greyhound"
and read scriptures.
The group sang
"Amazing Grace", written
by John Newton, and
Kerslake told a story
about the hymn.
A piano duet by Shirley
Kerslake and Marilyn
Vandenbussche was
enjoyed.
Kathy Bray and Nancy
Smith received the offer-
ing.
Helen Webber gave a'
humorous reading enti-
tled "Dad's Super Garden
May Be Mom's Swan
Song".
Nancy Smith told about
the life of Henry Francis
Lyte who wrote "Jesus 1
My Cross Have Taken".
The group sang "Abide
With Me" and Kathy Bray
closed the worship ser-
vice with prayer. Shirley
Kerslake was the pianist
for the hymns.

the evening. She wel-
comed everyone and read
a poem "What Is So Rare
as a Day in June?"

Church service
Rev. Marilyn Carter was
fn charge of the Third
Sunday After Pentecost
church service on Sunday
morning at Thames Road.
She told the youth a story
about "Noah."
The choir sang "Trust
and Obey" accompanied
by organist Marilyn
Vandenbussche. The title
of Rev. Carter's sermon
was "Sola Gratia - Grace
Alone."
Diane Jeffery and Janet
Coward received the
offering.

This fall the Outreach
Committee from Council
has committed. one
Monday night a month for
three months to help with
the Soup Kitchen in
Loddon. The Outreach
Committee is also Iooking
for a volunteer to be a

The Sunday School
Celebration and
Promotion Sunday will be
held June 27. The service

will be a ball game at the

Vacation Bible School,. a
one day event, will be
held July 25.
The U.C.W. will be
going to Blyth Festival to
see "Death of the Hired
Hand" on September 7. It
is a nostalgic play about a
threshing gang straining

the comedy "Don't Dress

supper at Pengelly's.
They were celebrating
Ross and Mildred's 50th
wedding anniversary.
A good crowd attended
the strawberry and ham
supper on Sunday
evening at South Huron
Rec Centre.

Davis descendants

SAINTSBURY - Sympathy of the St. Patrick's commu-
nity goes to the Kemps and Atkinson families in the loss
of a husband, father, grandfather and son-in-law, Joe
Kemps, who passed away at South Huron Hospital on
Friday and was buried from C. Haskett and Son
Funeral Home in Lucan on Saturday with The Rev.
Stanley Jay officiating. A reception following the burial
was held at St. Patrick's Parish Hall. Several of St.
Patrick's members visited the funeral home to pay
respects.
An evening prayer service was cancelled on Saturday
evening at St. Patrick's. The Evening Prayer. on June
19 will be held at 7 p.m.
The Rev. Stanley Jay will be at St. Patrick's on June
27 to celebrate the Holy Eucharist with refreshments
and a time of fellowship to follow.
Congratulations to Courtney MacGillivray who had:Aan
exciting 19th birthday on June 12, highlighted by the
Medway High School formal and a weekend with
friends and family.
Congratulations to Harley Davis on Sunday, winning
second place trophy in Super Mini at Paisley R.A.T.
moto cross track.
On Sunday. afternoon, 50 members of the family of
the late Heber and Mary Davis gathered at the home of
Jeffrey and Teresa Young and family in McGillivray
Township for a pool party and barbecue. The Youngs
and Jean and Tom Richardson and family organized
the get-together on June 13, which would have been
the birthday of mother, grandmother and great-grand-
mother Mary Davis.
