Capsule Comments with Ernie Miatello We all know the hazards of overexposure to sunlight. Did you know that if you stay out of the mid-day sun (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), you will avoid 60% of the UVB rays that hit the earth. UVB rays are the ones that cause sunbum and are primarily responsible for causing skin cancers. When you are applying a sunscreen, use one that pro- tects against both UVA and UVB rays. Be sure to apply the sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun. Also wear broad -brimmed hats and long-sleeved shirts-fortncreased protection. And use good sundaes - es. There are products on the market called "sun blocks". These products contain titanium dioxide. They used to be white pastes that gave good protection but looked kind of silly. Newer formulations are available now that don't Leave a residue. There are some medications that may' interact with sun- light causing phototoxic reactions. Examples of these medications include some antihistamines, cardiac drugs, diabetic drugs, arthritis drugs andothers. Talk to your pharmacist to see if your medication -may cause a, problem with sunlight. 111111101111P0111EMY k Phone 2354982 440 Main St., Exeter "Your Health Care Pharmacy The Exeter Lions handed out Canadian flags to senior kindergarten students at area schools last week including Precious Blood, Exeter Public,, Stephen Central and Usborne Central.
