Announcements More confinnation that you can count on your Canada Pension Plan People Who contribute to:the Canada Pension Plan have just received good news. A panel of independent actuaries has confirmed what the last report of the CPP Chief Actuary said — that the Canada Pension Plan is financially sound. The panel confirmed that the actuarial report was prepared according to professional standards and the assumptions used were within acceptable ranges. And both reports con- firm that a contribution rate of 9.9 per cent, shared equally between employers and employ- • ees, should be sufficient to sustain the CPP for generations to come. That means the changes made to the CPP in 1998 have put the Plan on the right track — they have made the CPP financially sustainable and made it fairer and more afford- able for future genera- tions of Canadians. These changes, agreed • ' - • , • . , 14. ‘c.:elitt, 4 e. to In 1997 by the federal and provincial govern- ments after lengthy coast- to-coast public consulta- tions, include higher con- tribution rates and a new investment policy.
