Close night of racing at Micro Speedway
GRAND BEND - After a
brief rain delay the specter
tors were treated to anoth'
er enjoyable evening of rac-
ing on Marshman Engines
sponsored May 22.
In the Allsport Jr. Micro
Spring 'A' division the #3 of
Jeremy Oke and the #24 of
Steven Stewart picked up
heat race wins. In an
extremely close feature
race that was decided with
a nice pass late in the race
proving to be the right
move that helped the #24 of
Steven Stewart pilot his car
to victory lane.
In the Allsport Junior
Micro Spring 'B' division #4
Josh Ackworth and #61
Scott Kipfer picked up their
first ever checkered flags at
Grand Bend Micro
Speedway in their heat
races. After chasing down
the leader and weaving in
and out of lap traffic, the
#20 of Nicholas McGlone
won his first feature win at
G.B.M.S.
In the Aqua Fina Mini
Sprint division the #88 of
Paul Shipway and the #30
of Greg Smulders took the
checkered flags in their
heat races. Once again the
#88 of Shipway drove into
victory lane. After taking
the lead on lap one, he
never looked back and
Shipway led the entire fea-
ture from green to checker.
In the Pepsi Micro Sprint
division the #20 of Heather
Barr and the #45 of Curtis
Gartley were the first to
cross the finish line in their
heat races. In the feature
#54 Darrel Limon led the
field around the track
allowing him to pick up the
checkerefi in their feature.
to tete Mug Rootheer Mini'
Super Truck division the #3
of Shaun Jennison and the
#18 of Darcy McLennan
won their heat races. Their
feature was well worth the
wait through the rain delay
with the #3 of Shaun
Jennison and the #18 of
Darcy McLennan battling it
out back and forth for the
lead all race. The two com-
petitors crossed the finish
line side by side. It was def-
initely a photo finish.
McLennan ended up
crossing the line a hair
before Jennison to take his
first feature win of the 1999
season.
Jennison takes all three
It was St. Mary's Ford
night at Grand Bend Micro
Speedway and what an
evening it was May 29.
The first nice Saturday we
have had this season
apparently brought out the
best in all of the racers.
In the Allsport Jr. Micro
Spring 'A' division the #3 of
Jeremy Oke and the #92 of
Jason Thompson won their
heat races. Once again you
, could have put a blanket
over the top finishers in
their feature. After a hard
fought battle it was the #72
of Shawn Thompson cap-
turing the checkered flag.
In the Allsport Jr. Micro
Spring 'B' division the #21
of Elysia Roy won her first
ever checkered flag and the
#61 of Scott Kipfer won his
second heat race in as
many attempts. The feature
was exciting as always,
with traffic all over the
track and at least five dif-
ferent battles taking place
during the race. It was the
#28 of Rob Shipway cruis-
ing into victory lane. Rob
spun his car out late in the
race and still managed to
pass the field to his first
ever feature win.
In the Aqua Fina Mini
Spring division it was the
#88 of Paul Shipway and
the *33 of Kyle Patrick tak-
ing heat race wins. In a
hard fought battle that saw
the point's leader #43
Stephen Rees exiting the
race early, this left the door
wide open for the point's
lead to change hands. The
end result was Paul
Shipway winning the
checkered flag for the sec-
ond straight week.
In the Pepsi Micro Sprint
division the #3 of Dave
Hayes won his first ever -
checkered flag and the #45
of Curtis Gartley picked up
another heat race win.
Once again the #54 of
Darrel Limon took home
the checkered flag for the
second straight week.
In the Mug Rootbeer Mini
Super Truck division it was
*3 of Shaun Jennison cap-
turing all three checkered
flags. Although it was not
an easy task as the other
drivers put the pressure on
Jennison all night, he still
managed to hold them off
and maintain the points
lead.
July 3 there will be a
draw for a Husqvarna
chainsaw. You will receive
ballots as you pass through
the front gate. These ballots
will be handed out every
night up to and including
July 3 so the more you are
there the better your
chances are of winning.
You must be present on
July 3 to be eligible or the
prize. Next week's sponsor
is RS 2000 Tax Consultants.
