ARKONA -- The WOSL Third Division Exeter Fury men's soccer team won their first game of the season in convincing fashion by blanking host Taxandria 4-0. Eketer generated numerous early scoring chances but were unable to convert . till Rob Devries sent an excellent cross over to a diving Tim Proctor who headed the ball into the net for a 1-O lead. Late in the half a Taxandria player was given the red lard for throwing a punch at Exeter defender Joe Forrester. Exeter continued to control the game in the second half by making some smart passes to the open man. Fury defend • - ers Matt Sims, Trevor Boersma, Forrester and Jason McFalls turned away the opposition time after time to keep the lead. Exeter continued to pressure the opposition's defence by using their speed up front with:.Chad ' Monteith and Proctor forcing many turnovers. The pressure paid off when the Fury were: awarded a penalty shot which was fiutshed off by Proctor for his second goal of the game and a 2-0 lead for Exeter. Ryan Hern made the score. 3-0 shortly after having _hts hard shot bounce off the crossbar. Hern got the ball outside the 18 -yard box and fired a shot .past the startled keeper for his first goal in five years for the Fury. Brian Brand wrapped up the scoring when his low drive nailed the post and bounced in off the keeper. Exeter Centennials men's soccer team offered Sunday and then handed host Exeter a 5-1 loss....: "We served up some humble pie," Centennials coach John Rasenberg said of the loss. "They played well, we didn't." The Latinos were up 2-0 at the half. Shawn Rotteau buried Exeter's only goal behind a bum- bling keeper after a nice cross from Travis Nairn. Rasenberg said the Cents will work on their marking before this week's game and added the two week layoff over the Victoria Day weekend didn't help his team. Exeter's record is 2-1. Exeter came out strong controlling the ball and the flow of the game with good. passing and rushing.. Exeter's engine lost its steam in the second half. The Hornets scored two early goals and Exeter couldn't catch up. Lisie Geurts played well between the pipes for Exeter. Exeter lost to host London United 5-2 May 25.
