Times Advocate, 1999-06-02, Page 1616 Exeter Times-AdM Wednesday, June 2, 1999 Grade 8 pupil competes in Canada -wide Science Fair By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH - Principal Mr. Kraftcheck and Grade 8 student Justin Sotidant attended the Canada - wide Science Fair in Edmonton from May 1l 5 to 20. Justin did well with his display and received honourable mention. Grade 7 and 8 pupils of Zurich Public School spent last Wednesday to Friday at Camp Sylvan near Thedford. They did a lot of outdoor activities. The camp is planning to have a 35th reunion on June 19 from 1 to 5 p.m._ for anyone who has been associated with it. The Zurich Agricultural Society will meet tonight, Wednesday, at 8 p.m. at the Hay Township Hall. The 1999 prize list book- lets are available from secretary Margaret Deichert at 236-4130 or you can pick them up_ at the meeting. Everyone is invited to come and make plans for the Zurich Fair scheduled for July 23,24 and 25. This year's theme is "Plowing Toward the Millenium". President is John Geiger. Several senior students of the Zurich area will be attending the formal at South Huron District High School on June 5 with the theme "Hollywood Nights." The graduation dinner and prom will be held at St. Anne's School In Clinton on June 5. A spe- cial Mass for the gradu- ates will be held June 27 at 4 p.m. at the school. A confirmation celebra- tion for 63 grade seven and eight students from St. Boniface School was held May 27 with Mass by Bishop Grecco from Windsor, assisted by Fr. Wronski, Fr. Beck, Fr. Morris and Fr. Sipek. Members of the Knights of Columbus were honour guards. The church was full to capacity with spon- sors, parents and rela- tives. A reception was held in the school gym afterward, served by members of the C.W.L. Grand Knight Gord Smith and wife Cecilia attended the K. of C. con- vention in Toronto on May 22 and 23. Fr. Wronski also attended for one day. Twenty-seven grade two students from St. Boniface. School made their group "First Communion" cele- bration on May 30 with Fr. Wronski. Members of the K. of C. were honour guards. Cake and refreshments were served in the school gym afterwards by mem- bers of the C.W.L. for par- ents and family members. A fundraising "Fashions with Gail" event will 'be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Hall on June 13 at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The Region #3 annual meeting of Homes for the Aged will be held in Cambridge on June 10 at St. Luke's Place with reg- istration at 9:30 a.m. If any Auxiliary members want to go, phone 43enna Klopp at 236-4675. Four members of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church .Youth Group spent from May 28 to 30 at a camp- ing retreat at Gord Hills in Varna along with leaders Mark and Sharon Taylor. A luncheon was held on May 30 for those who made their confirmation on May 23 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The Scouts, Cubs and Beavers spent from Friday to Sunday at the Huron District Camp at Benmiller for their annual Beaveree. The White Tail Beavers also spent Saturday night at the camp. The boys enjoyed a lot of outdoor activities. The Scouts went on an 8 km hike on Saturday, and some other boys went on a 25 km hike for the weekend. They back- packed along the river. The Women's Institute ' meting -will be held June 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Pearl Heimrich's apartment. The Golden Agers will be holding their next meeting on June 7 withr- a potluck supper at the Town Hall at 5:30 p.m. President is Lottie Grenier. The Senior's Convention will be held in Kingston on August 9 to . 11. Personals A 50th birthday party was held for Marilyn Fenwick on Saturday at her home in Zurich. It was attended by husband Ken and two children and close to 40 friends and relatives. Her actual birth date was May 27. A 40th birthday party for Myrna Thomas was held Friday night at the Hotel. Several friends from the Thedford area helped her celebrate, along with husband- Norm, daughter Emily. and relatives, and friends from town. A family get-together was held for Tim Klopp after his confirmation on Thursday at his parents' home, attended by two sets of grandparents and great-grandparents, and his sponsor Beth and hus- band Joe Boyle from Southcott Pines, Grand _Bend. Mark and Lori LaPorte and family spent the recent holiday weekend camping at Pine Lake near Bayfield. Bob and Linda Hendrick and two girls went camp- ing near Collingwood over the May 24 holiday week- end. Joining them were daughter Andrea and. husband Mark Watson from Barrie and Linda's parents Morris and Kay Webb from Grand Bend. Best wishes for a speedy recovery go to Audrey Smith who is a patient in University Hospital. Jerome and Carmel Sweeney attended a day of recollection at St. Andrew the Apostle Church on Saturday in London. Sympathy goes to the family of the late Gerald Steckle, and .
