Headin • out for fun
•
Londoner Jamie Mann, left, and "MacKenzie West of Bayfield head out for some
Victoria Day weekend fun in their dingy seen here on the river just east of
Hwy. 21 in Grand Bend. The low water level problem that kept some boaters
from putting their vessels in the drink subsided in plenty of time for the first
big weekend of ti- summer.
JK/SK to be separated

SEAFORTH North Easthope Public
School parents have concerns about.
putting junior and senior kindergarten
students in the same classroom.
Last Tuesday night in Seaforth, Troy
Schieckoff, representing concerned
parents, asked Avon Maitland District
School Board trustees to consider hav-
ing two kindergarten classes this fall,
giving the 17 senior kindergarten stu-
dents and ''Ne 11 junior kindergarten
students their own, classrooms and
their own teachers.
Last year, North Easthope Public
School chose to have the early learning
years program in their schools to
enhance the senior kindergarten to
Grade 3 programs instead of having`.
junior kindergarten.
For the upcoming school year, par-
ents are 'opting for the juniorkinder-
garten program. But they are worried
about affects of having students from
both agegroups in the same class.
"There could be senior kindergarten
students who will fall behind and not
be ready for Grade 1," said Schieckoff.
He asked trustees to give the princi-
pal the power to keep the two age
groups separate for the first year
because it is what the parents in the
school, just north of Stratford, want.
"There are no parents opposed to the
classes being separated," he said.
Trustee Margarent Laprade asked
Schieckoff if he had visited any of the
other classes which included children
of both age groups. She said there were
no adverse affects to students in those
other programs.
"No I haven't but I've talked to teach-
ers. They say it works but the first year
is tough," he said.
Schieckoff said the parents want the
teachers to be able to have one year to
get used to the younger students. "Once
they are familiar with the program,
they will be better equipped to ensure
the younger students won't hold the
older students back", he said.
