Long weekend in Grand Bend
Thousands of fun seekers
descended upon Grand
Bend for the Victoria Day
long weekend and with
them came the usual
throng of traffic headed to
and from the beach.
Although the weather did-
n't always co-operate .on
the weekend with periods
of rain, there were some
sunny patches to give
people a taste of the sum-
mer fun to come.
At right Kitchener's Brady
Ostell makes a fine grab
while playing frisbee with
his pais on Grand Bend
beach.
Beloe: Revelers in Grand
Bend this Victoria Day
long weekend were treat -
et to Kokanee Glacier fun
activities on the beach.
The promotion included
games, prizes and a huge
blown up floating `iceberg'
in the lake.

In honour of new pastors in our area
REV.
VERNON
DEAN
POINT TO
PONDER
r
"A new pastor moved
into town and went out
one Saturday to visit
his parishioners. All.
went well until he
came to one house. 'It
was obvious that
someone was home,
but no one came to the
door even after he had
knocked several times.
Finally, he took out his
card, wrote on the
back `Revelation 3:20'.
and stuck it in the door. The next
day, as he was counting the offering
he found his card in the collection
plate. Below his message was writ-
ten `Genesis 3:10.'
Revelation 3:20 reads; `Behold, I
stand at the door and knock. If any
man hear my voice and opens the
door, 1 will come in to him and will
dine with him and he with me.'
Genesis 3:10 reads `And he said, I
heard thy voice in the garden, and I
was afraid, because I was naked.'
Teaching profession has changed
Dear Editor:
The teaching profes-
sion has changed. So
.dedicated is the cur-
rent leadership to incit-
ing teachers to political
action they have
become oblivious to the
classroom teachers'
primary problem, deal-
ing daily with disrup-
tions by those choosing
not to learn... at the
expense of the vast
majority who wish to.
Premier Harris' stat-
ed intention is to
return disciplinary
powers to classroom
teachers. Union leaders
refused to respond to a
proposal that would
make pupils account-
able for their responsi-
bilities as stated in
school law. (1) The
O.S.S.T.F. General
Secretary dismissed it
as being unsupportable
through a form letter
relating to another
issue. (2).
Retired teachers are.
being asked to work for
and financially support
opposition candidates.
Teachers are engaging
in disturbances at "All
Candidates Meeting."
Students and parents
are calling
Conservative candi-
dates' headquarters
denouncing the parti-
san rhetoric of their
instructors
(3). Teaching was a
profession, but the rad-
ical leadership has suc-
ceeded. Teachers now
pay dues to the Ontario
Federation of -Labour.
They can sing
"Solidarity _Forever
with their union
"brothers and sisters"
as loudly and meaning-
ful as any member of
the C.A.W. or C.U.P.W.
Is this a step for-
ward? Not for' me. And
I hope not. in the minds
of others.
Yours truly,
JOE HUEGLIN,
(Ontario Teacher,
Retired)
