Butterfly" larvae go through metamorphisis.
:Grade 1 has had a busy month! We have been authors and are writing lots
of stories. The children . also take turns reading their favourite books to the
class. Next week our class will be hearing lots of stories at the Literacy
Festival. We hope that our mothers are enjoying the marigolds that we plant-
ed and gave to them for Mother's Day. They should be growing bigger by now!
Grade one has also been having fun doing farm activities as we turn our
thoughts to the International Plowing Match. Our room is getting quite a col-
lection of tractors, fences, animals and other farm machinery.
Robert Allsopp was chosen as grade 2/3's Cougar of the Month for May. He
was delighted to receive a voucher for _a free Pizza from New Orleans Pizza.
Rebecca Ryckman brought in a beautiful woven shawl to illustrate some of the
weaving work the students have been doing in class. The patterns and textures
in the classroom weavings have been lovely. Well done class.
The grade three class has been preparing, and now is doing the provincial
tests. The grade four's have been learning about the proper way to compost as
they prepare to plant our Earth Friendly Garden. We are preparing a mass
mailing to our penpals out west.
Mr. Brock's grade 5/6 class have been extremely busy throughout the month
of May. We attended Science Quest in Exeter and were impressed by many of
the displays. The favourite part of the day, hands down, was making Slime.
Thanks again to our student leaders. Our grade 6's have completed their rig-
orous testing, and while they were completing it, the grade 5's worked on an
Autobiography project and also finished planting our Earth Friendly Garden.
We had a BBQ to . celebrate the end of testing and the arrival of Summer, and
are looking forward to the Family Literacy Festival in Clinton next week.
The musical, "Groovy" was awesome. We had a stellar performance._ We
rocked the nation! The grade 7's are looking forward to Camp Sylvan and a
rugged outdoor experience.
The grade 8 class has finished performing "Groovy", the 60's musical. To top
off the performance, the grade 8 students painted a 1960's Volkswagon van
after dividing themselves into groups to cover a particular part of it. Groups
painted both sides, the front, back and one group even did the roof! The
designs varied from night to day, to vines and symbols, to suns and flowers,
and even handprints. Four grade 8 students wrote the Gauss Math Contest
this year. It is a very challenging multiple choice test and you would need a
pretty good math grade to take it. Camp Sylvan is an educational Science
camp that teaches you orienteering, pond study and survival. If one group
misbehaves somehow, they get to do all the cleanup chores. The grade 7 and
8 students are going to Camp Sylvan on May 26 until the 28th.
