New park benches installed in Village of Zurich

ZURICH -The new park
benches that can be seen
around town were donated
by the Village of Zurich and
Township of Hay in recog-
nition of the Year of the
Older Person.
A play at the Zurich
Public School entit
"Groovy" runs May 19 an
20 at 7 p.m. The cost

welcome.
It is time to purchase your
gate pass package for the
International Plowing
Match '99. Monthly draws
will be held over CKNX
radio at the beginning. of
June, July and August. The
draw for June is a barbecue
from Sparling's Propane of
Blyth.
On August 19 at the Rural
Beautification Awards
Banquet, the draw will be
made for the $40,000 park
model by Northlander
Industries, Exeter. The next
day to view the park model
home will be May 29,
Hensall Yard Sale Day. You
may purchase your gate
pass package that day or by
calling 236-4606, Gerry
and Diane Thiel. Also avail-
able are I.P.M.'99 souvenirs
by calling the same num-
ber.
A good time was had by
those who attended the
"Save the Arena" elimina-
tion draw and dance on
Saturday night at the
Zurich Community Centre.
-Dancing was enjoyed with
music by Mozarts Melody
Makers.. The lunch was
donated by Jerry Rader
Catering Service.
There were several $25
winners from the draws.
Rose Erb won the 5W50
draw worth $123.00. The
winner of 31,000 was
Heather Klopp of RR 2,
Zurich.
The bean festival commit-
tee worked hard to make
the evening a big success.
The grade two pupils of
St. Boniface Parish made
their First Holy Communion
at the weekend Masses by
Fr. Wronski and Fr. Morris.
The pupils were: Cheryl
Regier, Stacey LaPorte,
Alison Leslie, Kristyn
Mathonia, Madison
Wardrop, Amanda Welsh,
Taylor Hay, Laura Gelinas,
Rebecca Green, Cassandra
Groot, Kelsy Long, Jennafer
Regier, Blair Finkbeiner,
Luke Hartman, Michael
Lansbergen and Brendan
Regier.
Bernadette Denomme,
i<en and Sylvia Mittleholtz
and daughter Jen and
friend went on a bus trip to
Ottawa on May 14 to take
part in he March for Life on
Parliament Hill. They
brought along a "Precious
Life" quilt signed by mem-
bers of St. Boniface C.W.L.
A busload from St. Anne's
High School in Clinton went
also.
On May 18 the Brownies
and Guides held their annu-
al Flyup ceremony at the
Mennonite. Church. This
was the last regular meet-
ing of the group, but plans
are being made for a camp-
ing trip.
A busload of students
from St. Anne's School in
Clinton travelled to the
Avon Festival in Stratford
last Thursday evening to
see a play entitled
""Westside Story". .
Two buses from the
Legion in Grand Bend went
on a one day trip to Casino
Rama in Orillia on May 6.
There were 15 on the bus

The annual Mennonite
Relief Sale and Quilt
Auction will be held in New
Hamburg on May 29,
beginning with a pancake
and sausage breakfast at 7
a.m. The auction runs 8:30
a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

There was lots of excite-
ment at Whipple Tree
Riding Stables on May 14
when Don Masse's h;irse
had a colt. The fillie will
belong to Chantel Masse,
granddaughter of Don and
Alice Ann Masse. She
named her new horse
"Dream a Mircal".
Visitors with Josephine
Dietrich on Friday and
Saturday were her niece
Josie Sctwarzli and son Vic
and Collette . from
Stouffville.
Isidore and Paula LaPorte
have a new grandson,
Jacob, who was born on
May 10 to parents Todd
and Kim LaPorte of RR 1,
Dashwood. This was the
couple's first child.
Jack and Sandy Stephan
announce the arrival of
their third grandchild,
Emily Alexandra, who was
born on May 15 to parents
Mark and Annette Stephan
in Tokyo, Japan. She is also
the twelfth grandchild for
Karl and Mary Regier Sr. of
Zurich.
Sympathy goes to the
family of Clarence Reichert,
who passed away suddenly
on May 15.
A family get-together was
held at the home of Martin
and Cheryl Gelinas on May
16 in honour of daughter
Laura, who made her First
Communion that day. It
was also her brother
Marcel's seventeenth birth-
day.
Leah Margaret Martens,
daughter of Andrew and
Linda, was baptized on May
16 at St. Boniface Church
by Fr., Wronski.
Cathy Smith of Hamilton
spent last week visiting with
her parents Ed and Dorothy
Smith and family members
in the area. She also visited
brother Jeff and Donna and
children in London and
their new baby Michael
Douglas. She also helped
them move to a new home.

Margaret Hess who is a
patient in Stratford
Hospital.
A surprise 50th birthday
party was held for Bob
Dietrich recently, at the
home of his sister Linda

for Nicole Debus and Gary
Wilson on Saturday at the
Rec Centre in Exeter. She is
the daughter of Doug and
Julie Debus, Zurich. They
will be married in
September.
A bridal shower was held
for Jane Johnson, fiance of
Gerard Rau, on Sunday' at
St. Peter's Parish Hall, St.
Joseph, with over 60
friends and relatives
attending. Gerard is the son
of Clarence and Sharon
Rau, RR 2, Zurich. They are
planning to be married in
July.
An engagement party was
held for Peter Overholt and
Stephanie Durand on May
16 at the home of his par-
ents Willy .-and Martha
Overholt. Janet is the
daughter of Steve and Janet
Durand, of the Zurich area.
The couple will be married
in August.

Monica Gingerich who have
