By Katherine Harding TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF GRAND BEND — The 'Bend may be getting an OPP bike patrol this sum- mer. At Monday's meeting they endorsed a motion to share the `costs of funding a rotating bike patrol with six local.vil- lages and areas including Forest, Arkona and Thedford. "It is just another form ,a► of policing throughout the municipality," said Mayor Cam Ivey. The new bike patrol program requires Grand Bend to kick in $640 as a one-time capital expense to help purchase the two bikes required for the patrol. In return the village will receive 60 hours of bike patrolling. - Grand Bend now just has to wait to see if other participating villages tom. accept the OPP's bike patrol funding proposal. Other council notes: NOW 0-4* Nursery school seeking to move The president of Grand Bend's nursery school approached council to see if they could rent unused space in the youth centre on Municipal Drive. "We are looking for a place of our own," said nursery school president Brenda Wiendls. The nursery school has operated out of a Grand Bend church basement since 1983. Wiendls said 12 chil- dren are registered with the school and the new space would legally accommodate 15. Exeter's public meeting is on June 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Exeter council chambers, while Stephen Township's meeting will be on June 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stephen Township Hall in Crediton. Usborne's meeting has not yet been scheduled. If the bylaw becomes official an individual will have to receive the approval of council before displaying a sign within village limits. Council has scheduled a public meeting for June 7 at 7:30 p.m. to receive input on the proposed bylaw. Donation delayed Councillors shelved South Huron District High School's reunion committee's request for a $100 donation for the All -Years Reunion until September. They would like to see if funds become available by then within their bud- get to make the donation. Vandalism continues at school Dear Editor: This letter is addressed to the children who have vandalized the Exeter Public School sign for the third time in two months. This sign was pur- chased with money raised by you and your parents. Not only are you disre- specting the school, but you are not respecting all the hard work of the volunteers, parents and students who helped to make this sign happen. Thisign helps us to communicate and create a relationship between the school ,and school families. The police have been notified and when the vandals are caught, we will prosecute!
