Capsule Comments
with Ernie Miatello
Those who suffer from seasonal allergies will
appreciate a new nose plug being developed
by researchers in Australia. The plug fits right
into: the nostrils and filters out about 80% of
allergy particles while still allowing the user to
breathe through the nose. Sounds promising!
Diabetics can't take insulin by mouth because
it is inactivated inthe stomach. But Purdue
University researchers are working on putting
insulin in a special gel that protects it until it
reaches the small intestine where it can be
absorbed. Human trials will start soon.
Adults over 65 make up about 12% of the
Canadian population yet they receive 20-40%
of all prescribed medications. It is important
for the optimum healthof t# elderlL
