Speaker tells of his work with "Safe Homes forYouth"

May meeting of the
U.C.W. was held on
Tuesday evening at
Thames Road Church
wilt 35 women pre-
sent.
Joan Morgan wel-
comed everyone and
gave the theme
"Mother's Day" and the
call to worship on
Mothers. She also read
scripture.
Dorothy Duncan ars:'
Jo -Ann Rowe gave the
meditation on the scrip-
ture. Joan Morgan,
Alma Ballantyne,
,►' Dorothy Duncan, Jean
Hodgert, Grace Pym,
Lorraine Alexander and
Beatrice Dawson all
gave thoughts about
mothers.
Alma Esflantyne
played several numbers
on the piano. A reading
by Stephen Leacock,
"How We Kept Mother's
Day" and another read-
ing "The Meanest
Mother i Ever Had"
were read by Joan
Morgan.
"Marjorie Johns
accompanied the group
Oa •the piano for the
hymns.
President Jean
Hodgert opened the
business with a poem
"The Little .That
Counts." Secretary
Diane Jeffery took the
roll call which was
answered by telling
your favourite spring
flower. Jeffrey also
read the previous min-
utes and the correspon-
dence.
Marilyn Pym gave the
treasurer's report. The
officers on the Standing
Committee gave
reports.
The visiting commit-
tee for the next four
months are: Group U
Marjorie Johns; Group
C Joan Morgan; Group
W Pat Ballantyne.
Westminster Weekend
will be held June 4-6;
Summer Events will be
held July 17 at Siloam
United Church; and a
Camp Site Experience
will be held June 21.
Jo -Ann Rowe, Sharon
Lynn, Marjorie Johns,
Joyce Fulton and June
Stewart are on the
committee buying flow-
ers for the flower beds.
The Strawberry and -
Ham Supper plans were
discussed. The supper
date is changed to
Sunday, June 13 at the
South Huron Rec
Centre. Grace Pym gave
a report on the April
Events held in Mitchell
recently.
Group W served
lunch. The, meeting
table was covered with
a cloth and bouquets of
tulips and lilacs.
Church service
Rev. Marilyn Carter
led the regular church
service on Sunday
niorninng. at Thames
Road. She lit the Christ
Candle with the help of
Zachary Kadey.
The Youth Group had
a banner depicting the
M&S Fund and stated
how much money had
been raised.
The minister told the
children a story entitled
"Stone Soup". The choir
sang "We Are His"
accompanied by organ-
ist Marilyn
Vandenbussche.
Sharon Lynn read
scriptures and Barry
Miller introduced
Arnold Mathers of
Exeter who is on the
board of "Safe Homes
for Youth". Mathers
gave a very informative
talk on youth and the
home.
Nancy and Courtney
Smith received the
offering and were
greeters along .with
Corey Smith.
The Outreach
Committee served a
i nch after the service.

service of worship,
