Guest speaker Janet Anderson of J.E.A. Perennials showed slides of unusual peren- nials. At the Granton United Church on Mother's Day and Christian family Sunday, Lay Pastor. Regional Rally The Middlesex Presbyterial U.C.W. Northeast Regional Rally was hosted at Granton United Church on Tuesday evening, May 4 commencing with registration and dessert and coffee. The program theme was 'Stepping Along' in keeping with the International Year of Seniors and the theme hymn was 'One more step along the way.' The guest speaker was Sue Fowler, Director of the Friendship Centre in St. Marys. Welcomes were given by Regional vice presi- dent 'Helen Elliott, Presbyterial President Margaret Plant and Granton U.C.W. President Audrey Westman. Wesley U.C.W. extended an invitation to hold the Rally in 2000. gtephen Central plants Friendly Gardens. Stephen Central Pub- lic School has joined 19 other, schools in Huron County by beginning an Earth Friendly Gardens project. Students are ' planting tomatoes, carrots, straw- berries, rhubarb, let- tuce, sunflowers and other vegetation to learn about self suf- ficiency and co- operation. Co- ordinator Sheila de- Lange said the gar- dens will teach students organic ways of gardening and composting. Above are the stu- dents taking part in the project. At left are Shawn Forrest, Jenna Becker, Curtis Brand, Kaylee Bar- rett and Kira O'Neal. 29 Fashion fund-raiser The 7th annual fund-raiser for the Grand Bend Public School was held at the Gables last Thursday, during which many local children showed off the new fashions. In the top photo, Jessica Van- Bruwaene and Joseph Roberts pleased the crowd with their summer outfits while in the bottom photo Maggie Roberts helps Kyle Jones. Organiz- ers estimated that $1,500 was raised for the school. That money will be coupled with money raised by the Rotary Club to buy a new computer for the school.
