Men conduct service on
Mother's Day in Saintsbury

SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's cele-
brated their Evening Prayer Service
on Saturday at 7 p.m. with Bob
MacGillivray leading the service
assisted by the boys and men as they
gathered to honour the mothers. •
Caleb MacGillivray assisted with the
lighting of the Paschal Candle. The
young men of the congregation each
gave their favourite story of women
of Bible times who played an undeni-
ably significant role in the shaping of
history.
The male group sang "Lord- of the
Dance". Hugh Davis read the 'Holy
Gospel and Ron Carroll took up the
offering.
Bob MacGillivray gave an .enjoyable
message entitled "We are God's
Children" followed by a poem given to
him by his mother Stevie MacGillivray
called "Mother's Love".
Flowers at the altar were given in
memory of mothers Mary Davis and
Vera McFalls from Hugh and Hazel .
Davis and family.
On May 16, the seventh Sunday .of
Easter, The .Rev. Stanley Jay will be
at St. Patrick's to celebrate the Holy
Eucharist at 10:30 a.m.
Happy birthday .wishes go to Bob

attended the Perth Deanery Great
Chapter meeting on Tuesday evening
at Trinity Church, Mitchell, a pre -
synod meeting with guest speakers
The Rev. Nick Wells and The Rev.
Laverne Jacobs.
Harley Davis attended the 50th
birthday celebrations for uncle Bob
Dietrich a week ago at the Foran's in
Centralia.
There were lots of family get-
togethers on Sunday for. all those in
the, area celebrating Mother's Day.
Some participated in the Shunpiker
Mystery Tour sponsored by, the
London Free Press which included
various points of interest in Biddulph.
Congratulations to the Medway High
School Senior Choir for winning first
place at the Heritage Music Festival
in New York City last weekend. The
Senior Band won bronze honours.
Courtney MacGillivray was one of the
participants.
Congratulations to Katie -Scarlett
MacGillivray for. having a 96 percent
mark in the babysitting course held.
Saturday at the Ausable Centre ifl
Lucan.
Congratulations to Harley Davis for
winning fifth place at Blackstock
Raceway on Sunday in the 80 cc race.

CENTRALIA - Minister
Heather Scott asked
the children about the
special events on May 9
at Centralia United
Church. They told her
that they were cele-
brating Mother's Day.
In addition, baptism
was being held for two
babies. May 9 was also
Christian Family
Sunday.
Minister Scott and the
children discussed the
importance of these
celebrations. She told
them that the love and
care they receive from
their mothers is like
God's love for every-
one.
Sam Skinner, Clerk of
the Session, assisted
Minister Scott with the
baptisms. Members of
the congregation wel-
comed into the faith
John Michel Evan
Hayter, son of Mike and
Deb Hayter, and Dylan
John Rooney, son of
John and Kelly Rooney.
Several men of the
congregation partici-
pated in a men's" choir
in honour of the occa-
sion.
On May 16, Rev.
Robert Graham will be
a guest speaker at Zion
and Centralia United
Churches.
Fun Night
A large group of chil-
dren met at Centralia
United Church on May
5 to participate in Fun
Night. Carol and Allan
Powe organized the
evening for the chil-
dren. They enjoyed
painting flower vases
and planting pansies to
give to their mothers.
The next Fun Night
will be held May 26 at
6:30 p.m.
Centralia UCW
The women of
Centralia • United
Church held a U,C.W.
meeting on May 6 at
the church. Jean
Caslick read a poem
about Mother's Day
and another entitled
'Down the Garden
Path.' She was also the
guest speaker. Marian
Deline gave the scrip-
ture reading. Lunch
was served by Lois
Wilson and Phyllis
Tomes.
Euchre results
The High Point win-
ners in th'e euchre
games held recently in
Crediton were Bernice
Squires and Lila Ellis,
while Doreen Lightfoot
and Doris Pfaff had the
lowest points. -The Lone
Hand`- winners were
Gordon Eaton and
Mary Scott. ,:

Choir practices will
be held at Thames
Road Church on May
16 and 23 at 7:30 p.m.
The choir will sing at
the joint worship for
the Community of
Churches on May 30.
Gary Alan Price will be
the guest speaker.
The Sunday School at
Zion West United
Church will celebrate
their anniversary on
June 6. A picnic will be
held following worship
at the church.
The village of
Centralia is holding
community yard sales
on May 15. This will be
the second year for this
event. It's a great time
for visitors to come and
browse in Centralia.
