The banquet and awards evening was arranged by the Pin Poppers team, president Carmel Sweeney and her executive. Several door prizes were won and a cheque for $50 will be sent to the Big Brothers organi- zation. Tony and Marlene Bedard were presented with a gift from the women and the group were invited back to the bowling lanes for some Glo-in-the-dark bowling. Next year's executive team will be the Packers. The Huron and District Scouting leaders trav- elled to Walkerton on the weekend to take a "Fast Water Course" to receive their water safety badges. Mark and Sharon Taylor, Zurich and Jim and Janet Cameron of Clinton attended. The Arena Fundraising Elimination Draw and Dance at the Zurich Arena on Saturday will begin at 8 p.m. Advance tickets cost $10 each. Phone Jody Durand for more information. Lunch will be provided by Jerry Rader Catering with music by Mozart's Melody Makers. The Grade seven and eight students of Zurich Public School are learn- ing their parts for the school play "Groovy" to be held in the auditori- um on May 19 and 20 at 23 7 p.m. The cost is $3 at m the door and everyone is Welcome to attend. Two members of the Auxiliary pinned corsages on all of the women residents for Mother's Day. Lucky winner of a dec- orated cake made by Mary -Lou Erb was Kevin Overholt. A baby quilt made by Ina Neeb was won by Becky Dietrich. Two boxes of groceries were won by Mary -Lou Denomme and Therese Stark, both of Zurich. A Mother's Day pan- cake breakfast at St. Boniface Parish Hall on Sunday after Mass was successful thanks to the work of the Knights of Columbus. Anyone who has pop cans to donate to th parish is asked to dro them off at the home Doug Debus, Rahp Smith, Zurich or Joh Jacobs, Hensall. The Brownies, Guide and Sparks held thei annual Mother's Day Te at Erb's Country Kitche on Tuesday. They treat ed their moms an grandmothers. On May 11 all the girl and their leader enjoyed a night at th Town and Country Lane to play Glo in the Dar bowling. An outdoor adult fit ness program is planned at the Lion's Club pavil ion in Grand Bend Instructors will be Beth Sweeney and Lise McLlwain. This is the first year it has been offered. There will be two eight-week pro- grams: May 17 to July 9 and July 12 to September 3, each with limited space. Call (519) 8-5311 for more infor- ation. The geo-techni- 1 report for the soil is 11 underway and the gineer is very positive out his testing. n May 29, John and rilyn Geiger will be riding in the ninth annu al Flame of Hope Trai Ride, a fundraiser for the Canadian Diabetes Association. Last yea the ride raised $65,000 for diabetes research Over the past eight years an estimated 1000 par- ticipants have raised a total of $373,000. A donations of $10 or more will receive a receipt for income tax purposes. If you would like to spon- sor the Geigers, phone them at 236-4592 as soon as possible. They will need your name, address and postal code for issuing receipts. Please make cheques payable to Canadian Diabetes Association. A buck and doe was held 1 at the Zurich Arena on May 7 for the couple who are planning to marry in r June. A buck and doe was • held for Jason Schilbe and Jodie Glavin at the Zurich Arena on May 8. Jason is the son of Richard and Brenda Schilbe, Zurich. The cou- ple are getting married in July. A buck and doe will be held on May 15 at the Exeter Rec Centre for Nicole Debus, daughter of Doug and Julie Debus, Zurich to Gary Wilson of Huron Park.. Their wed- ding will take place in September. - A bridal shower was held recently for Laura Pearson' at the home of Mary -Lou -Erb .with friends and co-workers attending. Laura is the fiancee of Cam Rader, son of Jerry and Brenda, Zurich. The couple are planning to be married in August. A surprise 25th wed- ding anniversary party was held at St. Peter's Parish Hall, St. Joseph for Chris- and Janet Brown, RR #2 Zurich on Saturday night. Their actual date is May 18. Kevin and Shelley Geoffrey and children spent the weekend in Michigan at the home of Jim and Bunny Geoffrey in Farmington. The girls, along with Jessie enjoyed a "Champions on Ice Show" at the Joe Louis Arena. Relatives came from Oakville, Dorchester, London, Grand Bend and the Zurich area from April 30 toMay2. Relatives of the late Bernard Sweeney attended his funeral on May 1 in Windsor. Queensway residents and biddies make fiowers for mural HENSALL - On Monday morning at Queensway Nursing and Retirement Home in Hensall, volun- teers met for the month- ly Auxiliary meeting to review the busy May schedule. In the afternoon, Hensall United Church Women came for bingo games. They will be helping with bingo dur- ing the month of May. Monday evening the Hensall Girl Guides made hand flowers of colourful construction paper with the retirement home buddies. These crafts will be part of a mural;, on display at the Hensall Community Centre on June 25 for the celebra- tion of International Year of the Older Person. Rev. Tracy Whitson- Bahro officiated the Tuesday afternoon church service. Residents sang their favourite hymns during the service. The residents spent their Wednesday after- noon going for a walk or sitting outside. Winnie Hutton and Joyce Beemer took some resi- dents for wheelchair rides. Everyone tapped their toes or sang along with the Grand Cove Singers on Thursday afternoon. Refreshments were served after the program and everyone visited. '100 Funniest Moments of the Twentieth Century' was shown for the Friday afternoon movie. Clare and Andrew, along with Bob Gilmore entertained with song at Friendship Friday.
