Total attended 176 GODERft - The Town of Wingham could be exporting its waste by next year -- not to a `mega dump' site Located outside of Huron County. but to Exeter. The Wingham Landfill/ site is scheduled tel ch e~ at the end of the year and the Ministry of the Environment is not pre- pared to extend the site's life beyond the current closure date. Because the Wingham landfill site is scheduled to close at the end of the year, waste management consultant Steve Janes told county council at its April meeting that it has to be dealt with in the short term. Stephen Township will also require landfall dis- posalin three years in order to facilitate the clo- sure of its landffil site. At the April 29' meedng of county council, its plan- ning and development committeerecommended the county explore the use of the Municipal Act approach to expand the service area for. the Exeter landfill vilitll ;the idea this. site will Warne the, .principle: bang -term landfill serving the central and southern regions of the county. Thecounty will research this approach in order to confirm its acceptability. That research willinclude refining the details onthe county assumption of waste management pow- ers and reaffirm : the MOE position adopted in a simi- lar Bruce County applica- tion and approved by the ministry.
