Tbw..,Ael.e.w 19 Community Shower held atThames Road Church for May bride By Rhoda Rohde nialiESIWAQ LOBSESKLVANI THAMES ROAD - About 60 people attend- ed a bridal shower on Tuesday evening at Thames Road Church for bride elect Cheryl Ballantyne, whose wed- ding takes place the end of May. The basement and platform were deco- rated with spring flow- ers, kites and many other things. Alma Ballantyne played "Love and Marriage" while Melonie Miller escorted Cheryl to a decorated chair. Melonie Miller welcomed everyone and Alma Ballantyne played sever- al numbers on the piano. Sharon Passmore rem- inlsced about Cheryl's past. A humorous skit was presented by Virginia Warwick and Diane Jeffery about married life. Melonie Miller gave an alphabet reading for the bride and a nicely word- ed address. Riley Rooseboom, Alana Hodgert and Susanne Cunnington carried in the gifts to the bride. After opening the gifts, Cheryl replied and everyone sang "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow". Church set> via Rev. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the reg- ular church service on Sunday morning • at Thames Road Church. She told the children a story about the Ten Commandments. The choir sang "Jesus Will Walk With Me" accompanied by organist Marilyn Vandenbussche. Kay Cunnington read scriptures. The title of Rev. Carter's sermon was "Is There a `Tate' Family Here?" Barbara Ballantyne read a Minute for Mission. John and Brenda Miner received the offering and were the greeters. Announcements On May 5 Standing committee meetings will be held at 7 p.m. fol- lowed by a Council meeting at 8:30 p.m.. at Thames Road Church. A U.C.W. meeting will be held on May 11 at Youth for Christ CLINTON - .The last Youth for Christ Rally for the season was held on. May 1 at Huron Centennial School with over 200 in attendance. It was a celebration of 50 years of Youth for Christ in this area. The rally started with a Bible . Quiz on I Tim., Chapter 6. The. Scores for the season were'tal- lied and Goderlrh team won the tro- phy. This trophi had been donated by Dr. Bern Corrin, who presented it to the winning team. Smaller trophies were given to the person who had the highest score on each team. Goderich was Ryan Turner, Zurich, Marcia Melick and Centralia, Peter Hockey. There were many people present who had been h><volved in Youth for Christ in the past, some of whom shared about what Y.F.C. and quizzing in particular meant to them. held Music was provided by a group from Goderich Pentecostal Church called 'One Way". Also men's quartet from Zurich Mennonite Church sang two num- bers. A history of Y.F.C. was given by Ron Westlake. The guest speaker was Wes Aarum from Delevan New York.. He is the past president of Youth for Christ of Canada and _ founder and director of Circle C. Ranch_ - He said, the answer to the evil in this world is to repent and be con- verted, by admitting that we need a Savior who is Jesus Christ. Decorated cake and drink was served to everyone at the end of the meeting. There will be one more event = the annual chicken BBQ which will be held at Ken Gascho's Park on June 12. Thames Road. The Church in Society, com- mittee, Joan Morgan, Mary Rowcliffe, Jo -Ann Rowe, Dorothy Duncan and Alma Ballantyne, will present the pro- gram. The roll call will be "Your favourite spring flower" Group W will serve lunch. An evening of music by • Joyce Fell and Sarah Jane Hood entity "Cousins in Concert" wilk be held May 16 at Main St. U.C. in Mitchell. All proceeds will benefit Hibbert U.C., Staffa; Knox Presbyterian, Monkton; Main Street U.C., Mitchell. Advance tickets are: adults $5; children $2; at the door, adults $6, children $3. The Community of Rural Churches are holding a service of wor- ship, song and fellow- ship at Thames Road Church on May 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Choir practices will be held Sunday evenings beginning May 2 at 7:30' p.m. at Thames Road U.C. Everyone is`wel- come. The Sunbeams will meet on May 6 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Thames Road Church. Personals The Usborne Guild comprised of Ray Cann and Bill Rohde on the violins, Bob Jeffery on the guitar, Harry Jeffery on the banjo and Jean Hodgert on the piano, played at the Exeter Villa on Thursday evening. Rhoda Rohde visited with her aunt, Ruth Shier of Kirkton on Friday. BM and Rhoda Rohde were Monday evening supper guests . with Elliott and Audrey McRoberts in Exeter. Pians were made for the district annual ort May 20 at Crediton and the district picnic.. Marilyn Pym, area rep- resentative of the Children's Hospital in London, gave her report. Marian Dougall report- ed on the Board meeting in Hensall. A list of arti- cles to be displayed by the Institutes at the July 1 celebrations were dis- cussed, Secret pal gifts were distributed.
